Suspending a license for child support is counterproductive.  Things happen, people are laid off.  Unfortunately, it can take time to find a new job.  So how is it a good idea to take away the one thing needed to get a job.  Suspending a license severely impedes the parent from looking for work, i.e. driving to interviews.  In some cases, you cannot even get a job if you do not have a valid driver's license.  Thus delaying payment of child support further.  How does this make sense?

I thought the first and second ammendment were put in place for just that reason.

If the government gets out of hand. (you know like it is starting to do now!!) We the people have the right to get rid of that government.

Now there is a law against that??? Talk about the fox gaurding the hen house.

If these states really want to do something to reduce accidents and make the roads safer, revoke drivers licenses for cell phone use, texting, reading, shaving, applying makeup, and many of the other stupid and distracting things people do while driving.

With a few minor exceptions this is a ridiculous use of driver license suspension.  All it accomplishes is to have thousands of drivers on the road without valid insurance putting people at risk of being in an uninsured accident with no way to cover either their property or medical costs.  It has nothing to do with protecting the public or even punishment for that matter, it is all about money for the states.  In most cases you need to drive to work.  No one is going to lose their job over not having a valid license.  They are going to drive illegally.  Beyond stupid.  And you have to love even the idea of taking the license away for non-payment of anything.  No license, no job, no job, no money.

"The right of the citizen to travel upon the public highways and to transport his property thereon, either by carriage or by automobile, is not a mere privilege which a city may prohibit or permit at will, but a common law right which he has under the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Thompson v. Smith, 154 SE 579

Ok, Lets recap...Of course, if you commit a moving violation you can, and perhaps should have your driver's license revoked. But some of the "crimes" that are mentioned in this article should raise eyebrows....Like advocating overthrow of the Government??? Not only does this have nothing to do with driving a vehicle, you have a first amendment right to free speech that is being infringed.

Open container: Either the driver is under the influence or not, and the passengers are not in public, so why is this even an issue? They preach to have a non- drinking sober driver, and when you do that, they still screw with the passengers!  Prostitution??? What a person does with thier own body isn't your concern even if it's consensual sex for money. What's next? banning premarital sex?

Tow truck graft: This is when you tip a tow truck driver money to get your car. The cops use the tow companies that charge you a huge fee and give kick backs to the cops. I was in a motorcycle accident, and they wanted $100 to take my bike about a mile and a half to my home that they would have driven right past on the way to thier shop anyway. When people I know offered to go a few blocks to thier home to get a triler to do it for free, the tow driver and the cops all got real pissy about it.  Unattended child: ok, if the kid is like 5, maybe this is a good idea, but they'll still use this law if the kid is 15, and you just stopped for a few moments. Unruly child: so, if your kid is a uncontrollable brat, we'll take YOUR license??? This makes no sense at all.

Dispensing gas into a unregistered dirt bike??? You gotta be kidding me!!!

Boating while intoxicated: Of course, you should not boat and drive, but it bothers me that the cops think that they should not have to have probable cause to check you for that.

You still have a constitutional right to be protected from unreasonable search.

It's pretty clear that these "laws" that are being used to hold your driving privileges over your head are nothing more than a ruse to exhort money from us and suck away a little more of our rights under the constitution.

I suppose that's why they put that overthrowing the Government thing in there.

"Ohio: The Buckeye State cracks down on drivers with children who drop out of school or bring weapons to school, and in 2010 it suspended 656 licenses of drivers whose children were determined by a court to be unruly. "

Best not to have kids in Ohio then!  ALL children are unruly every once in a while...

why is it that they feel that if you do something stupid you deserve to lose your DL. If it has nothing to do with driving then they should not be able to punish you with a driving (Non-driving) penality?

Just another way to make sure they get more money from you

I will let you guys in a little secrete. When a cop walks up to you on the street and ask you for ID. First of all you dont have to. But if you did something stupid that the cops ask you for ID. Give them a non-driver ID like school id, work id any other id. Like me i carry my passport. I remember one day i was riding my bicycle downtown manhattan went threw red light cop asked me for id i gave him my job ID. he asked if i had a lic. I told him i am not driving. Then he asked me again do i have a lic. Since he was being an ****. I just told him no i dont have a lic. Then he told me to go. So now i carry a passport. i am on foot or bicycle i give passport or if i am in a motorized viehicle then i give a lic.

another way for the goverment to control us, they just keep making more rules to put more money in the pocket. its not even worth owning a car anymore because there is so many fee's, and in some states they want you to pay for mile on your own car to use there streets how is that right? and now more ways to take our driving lic. The goverment just needs to stop making it hard on americans and face the fact its there fault were broke, an stop trying to make up new law's as they go.
