Where is Florida?  No income tax, no inheritance tax, and a 6% state sales tax!  This article sucks!

These guys seem to make this stuff up.  There is no rhyme nor reason.

Washington, Nevada, Texas, Wyoming, South Dakota and Florida do not have State Income Tax.

And South Dakota has a very low cost of living.

I have become quite skeptical of any of the top 10 articles.

The "researcher" was lazy.   Take SC for example, In Mt. Pleasant you pay 9% sales tax when you buy a burger, 6% state sales tax and 3% loca sales tax.  In North charleston, it is 6% and 2%. etc.  Also, in N. charleston, if your dog leaves your property without a leash, like my 7 lb mini-pinscher which soemtimes escapes, the fine is $ 1,000.00, even if the dog is fixed, payable at the pound after they ID you first and then tell you you are fined.  That is a tax.  On Sullivan's Island, we only paid $ 200.00 fine when the dog escaped.  Still a tax.  No legitimate public purpose, just a hidden tax.

Actaully, you pay taxes on everything you do here..

Alaska also has a subsidy for all of its citizens, funded by big oil; another drop or so in the bucket of high energy costs.

There is no free lunch! Government must have money to function. It/they get it somewhere. The only way to control the expense of government is to control its expenditures. Elect fiscally responsible politicians!

All the states mentioned are beautiful. I wish California was like it was in the 50's great place, open spaces , clean water , good people, now all ten look good to me. Nevada is the only one I have been to on a regular basis. I must some of it is beautiful and  some not so pretty. But everyone from the building department , post office, NHP, Capitol Building are some of the nicest people I have worked with ever. You want a good place to live Nevada is great. People in general just don't think like the coast. Rent and housing is reasonable, food is the same, but you can't beat a true Nevadan , just good ole boys with a brain.

The best way to determine how much money any state will suck out of you is farily easy. Any state that votes blue, run by the Dumbocrats and has a large lack of public service workers union members is ones you should stay away from. NY, NJ, CT, Mass, Ill, Pa,Ca need I say more.

I clicked through pretty quickly; thanks for not sending 'em all to Cali!

We just raised the rates on the wealthy, and don't have anything of value to offer anyway...

I look forward to visiting all the states you mentioned (in season; well, those that actually have a decent season ;))

Don't worry, Nevada has other taxes that make up for the loss of state income taxes. You ain't going to get something for free in Nevada.

These cities are in the states that another article, in this same forum, recommended as not fit for retirees as they had high crime rates, too many people below the poverty rate and local health and safety issues.

Can the editors please compare the submitted articles to others before publishing them?

This is really haphazard reporting!

Where the hell is Texas.  unless there has been a major change, Texas had no state income tax when I lived there and/or reported my income tax from there 1976 to and including 1980.

p.s. it seems that sales and property as well as retirement duns in Texas at least warrants an honorable mention in the article if not a position in the top 5.

The state taxes aren't what get you ... it's the Fed taxes?? 2013 taxes will go up for everyone in the country and health care is another cost that is a killer. The best state there is for taxes is the Caymans!! Move your residency and and money to the Caymans and tell Obama to stuff all of his taxes. Plus the weather is great. What you save in Fed taxes, you can buy a boat and totally relax cutting down on your need for health care!

Nevada is the worst state to retire in. You will always be an outsider there. They have a double minded state Government, with wide spread corruption. After all, gambling was legailized there. No morals and no standards. Las Vegas and Reno have different laws. As they also vary from county to county. It is over rated.
