Just remember it's all digital money. Most people don't understand that all rewards cards charge the merchants a higher percentage than the average card.  What percentage you say? Amex charges 2.5%-4% based on a businesses volume of credit cards. So if you spend $100 they take $3.50-$4.00 from that business. As inflation rises they win even more. Their cost of doing business is not at the mercy of product pricing only by payroll, which they can control. Credit cards are a great tool but also can be your down fall if you are not careful.  The big banks always win.

Southwest airlines awards 6000 points to us at the card's anniversary. The annual fee is $99.00 however  the points about evens the annual fee.  Southwest's companion fare (we had one last year) allows a companion fare with another paid fare or bonus points fare. I was the companion with my wife last year and I flew free eleven times. We never pay more than 18,500 points cross country with Southwest. I am making a trip to the east coast in February for under 12,000 points. Have friends who swear by American Express points and pay 30-40,000 points cross country.
