The format MSN uses for these slideshows is absolute garbage.  Have to click through every state to get to the last set with no way to skip ahead, and can't link directly to the "slide" that you want.  You guys need to get better at this programming aspect--the internet is no longer a new phenomenon.

The country is in tough shape and the government can't fix it by cutting taxes.  It's up to Americans to straighten things out and sadly I don't think we're up to it.

A couple of examples.  Someone mentioned Walmart.  Back in the days when Sam Walton ran the company, you would see Walrmart ads with the flag flying in the background, a bald eagle flying around and Walmart bragging about selling "Made in USA" products.  As has been said, now just about everything in Walmart is made in China.  This has put 4 Waltons among the 12 wealthiest people in the USA.  It has made Walmart the country''s largest employer.  Unfortunately, those employees make about $9/hour and can't afford the premiums for the company health plan.  Walmart raised  their employees premiums in December.  Merry Christmas.

And what about Apple?  Their stock is at $500/share so everybody is happy with them.  Americans all want their iPhones and iPads.  They are sitting on $100 billion in cash.  Guess some of the money is going to shareholders.  What is the reason they manufacture everything overseas?  Is there any other company more financially capable of putting Americans to work manufacturing products?

In the 60's and 70's these companies would have been boycotted.  American workers watched out for each other.  Today Americans will sell out their neighbors so they can save 37 cents on a shirt or have the latest iPhone.  American union workers are called thugs while company executives continually take benefits from their workers in order to "earn" their inflated compensation.

Large companies take care of stockholders, not employees.  If Americans don't demand living wages and benefits and watch out for each other, this article will soon be about the few counties that actually aren't at the poverty level.

Again MSN led me astray on a head line article that they really did not want anyone to see!!!!Click on story for poorest county in my state and led to a page WITH NO STORY which led me to a chart without headings so became meaningless!!!  I keep falling for this, hoping to find something interesting, but rather find myself going around in circles.  MSN, why do you keep doling this????

If you have a story with any meaning, lead us to it, not in a circle of nothing!!!

Why are we as Americans NOT firing our politicians for things like NAFTA that has closed our plants, and manufacturing facilities? Bill and Hillary sent our jobs to China, Taiwan, and Mexico. Why are we not demanding someone bring our jobs back here? It is time we as Americans stand up and say "Bring our troops home and worry about our own people!"

There is no more USA...it's all a prop maintained by the Media who decides who we should vote for, both parties are corrupt and defunct... China will be picking our leaders soon.

I f you look at the History of this country, you will see a growing trend of deciet. It all spans from politics in our nations capitol of Washington DC. Our jobs have left us do to the "so called " free trades agreement, our money has lost it's worth due to the fed reserve not backing it with gold or silver (thats why money does not have these metals in it anymore and why money is now a federal reserve NOTE, or an IOU fiat money) and although they were the ones who have ruined us, tyhey still have to punish us by asking for more taxes. This is the same Politics our founding fathers fought against. Not withstanding the fact we are 37th in the world in healthcare, but number one in revenue from it !!

When Coleman Young was voted in as mayor of Detroit, decades ago, he decided that the "white folk" weren't welcome. So ... "whitey" moved out to the burbs, Oakland County in particular, and in the decades following ... Oakland County is one of the wealthiest counties in the US and downtown Detroit is burned out buildings, crack addicts on every corner, all the businesses have closed, and houses are being given away for free!!! So .... how's that working for you, Coleman??? It's sad ... but it does tell a story .....

chuckles,

We've got LAWS to prevent  working 29 hours a day and we can thank unions for fighting the abuses of years ago. Problem is over time they got greedy and too much influence in politics and a good thing went bad .That's my point.

Related to this article and not politics itself is the fact that the 4 Corners area of the country is also a high density population of Native Americans or Indians if you'd prefer to label them as such.

It is sad that so much money and attention is focused on 3rd World areas such as Africa while we have our own 3rd World people living within our own country and very few are doing something about it.  That is even more so when you stop and think that we as a society pushed them off of the vast places of America and forced them on to Reservations where little or no worthwhile land or resources existed and then we wonder why they are so poor and backwards.

Oppy10 are you kidding, the banking issue stated with Clinton and the passage of the Gramm Leach Bliley Act which opened the banks to making bad loans so all people could get themself in a home even if they could not afford it.  With features like no documentation loans, stated income loans, sub prime lending, and the list goes on and on.  This act was signed into a law back in 1999, and under the guidelines and banks were told they had to make so many of these loans a year.  The government of the USA made sure they did that.  That law hurt the economy that we are in now.  You are are right about Obama not being the cause of this economy.  This will take a long time to recover.  Obama needs to repeal that law, which he did, but it was actually already started before he became president, along with Bush.  This problem we are in, has more to do with laws passed way before President Bush or Obama were in office.

Everybody whines about jobs going overseas. Years ago, if the greedy labor unions hadn't gotten their high school dropout members  $30 an hour plus every benefit imaginable when the average worker was making $4 an hour,we wouldn't be in this mess.

People need to get a HOLD of their own finances and not expect to lean so much on others or the government. Too many free loaders in this country abusing the system.

Politics is easy foo.. as idiot jury said below.. you can blame one party all you want.. but the truf is the politicians are out for #1.(themselves). They could care less about us. It is easy for them to control the masses by using outdated ideas like "democrats hate guns and love welfare".. " "Republicans are pro business but hate blacks".. etc..

A lot of people and trolls in here love to repeat the same ole party line crap like a retarded parrot.

When I click though these states I see three categories. American, Indians, agriculture, and education. All with long term federal government programs. It is time face the fact that socialism doesn't work.
