When the term "any good Republican" is used....it is simple a metaphor for...corruption and greed of the Republican Party.  It is nothing more than sarcastic statement to bring the reality of the situation up front....to expose the true meaning of what the Republican Party is to all Republicans. Ironically most Republicans see what is a... metaphor... and take it literally.  Meaning that corruption and greed is the way of life of the Republican Party....and, it is completely acceptable. Such as, any good Republican will tell you, openly or privately...unemployment and poverty... is music to my ears. As any good Republican will tell you with the vast unemployment and poverty in America means they can now pay these people half the wages they were once use too....and, provide NO benefits for the poor.

People ou there looking for dates. Your are in the wrong forum. This area is not for dating. There are thousands of dating site on the internet depending on what you are looking for and how much much money you have to spend. You can find anything you want on the internet just incase you have been living under a rock for the last 20 plus years. If you can find what you want on those dating sites I doubt if you are going to find it here. Stop it and to to the right kind of site. Stop being stupid. You stand a better chance there. If you don't find a hook up here now you know why. If not I will spell it out for you. You are on the wrong site and forum. You are showing how desperate you are and no one likes to see a desperate person looking for a date. It turns woman off. Women if you are also doing it this it makes you look like a gold digger and no man in his right mind wants that. Grow up get some self-esteem and look in the propery place for dates, sex , money or what ever floats your boat but not here.

Coming from Alaska, I wonder if they take into the account the IMMENSE degree of subsistence living that goes on outside the metropolitan areas. You can literally hunt, fish, and collect your way to wonderful meals everyday there... And a lot of the Native Alaskans do. It largely explains why their incomes are so low--they don't need it out there. Additionally, in Alaska, the Natives receive free healthcare, living stipends, housing, scholarships, etc. The Native Corporation is extraordinary wealthy and owns vast tracks of land, and politicians are always vying for their vote. I know there have beens wrongs in the past, but they are not without amenities the rest of us have. in fact, some have much more.

I have traveled through out most of the world (not that I can afford it, but through the military) and I think we do not have a clue as to what real poverty is.  How about cardboard siding on your 1 or 2 room shack (home) maybe 200 - 400 sq ft of living space, 1 so called meal a day, no medical care or very little.  The list goes on and there are 100's of millions of examples...  Born rich is just being born in the USA.  Semper Fi...........

wow, I don't get it. Wall street market indexes are reaching all time earnings, and we still have poor people in this country? Nah, that can't be. Obama promised a "change", or what we are getting is his spare change?

this is ridiculous, the poorest county in all of the U.S. is better off than some of the best countries in the world...if you want to see poor, go hang out in Hattie or Tanzania, it will change your perspective. Soft, spoiled, and  ungrateful  is what we have become in the U.S.

After reading some of the comments about this article, there are two things that are obvious. The article misrepresents itself and some people will politicize anything.

The statistics are averages of an overall population and condition. While some Average incomes are over the national norm, this usually is rendered pointless by the cost to live in these areas. Some people have said that they find it funny or odd that these low income counties house large factions of native Americans and immigrants which is true.

That means there is a large reservation within the boundaries or more than likely an area of agricultural significance which would explain large contingents of Hispanics.

This is not so much about politics as it is about the type of work available, weather conditions during the cold months, and people who are unwilling to better their conditions or all of the above.

This has been a fact through most political administrations since the inception of the United States. I have seen numerous documentaries about impoverished areas, but I will use the Appalachians as my example.

This is a group of predominately white people who have basically been born into poverty and government assistance for the past (I'm guessing here) 50 years or so. This is a state of mind that the government has dumped tons of time, money and energy into but to no avail. You can't help those who don't want to be helped.

Bottom line, the way to greatness is through self reliance and the willingness to improve ones condition and that takes a lot of work. No article, skewed or not, and no political party with their policy convictions can fix this. If you want out of the mess, you need to be diligent and do your civic duties of voting and bring about positive changes through personal action and volunteerism that reflect a strong conviction to make this a better place for you and your family. NO EXCUSES! Nothing to it but to do it!

With poverty on the rise.....this will be the norm not the exception...under the Republican control of Congress....that represents 99 % of the county's listed here.

When a Republican keeps the people poor and uneducated than means a much greater labor surplus that will be easily exploded.  You will now beable to pay them half the normal wages and you will never have to pay them any benefits.  That is the desire and will........ of all Republicans.

Poverty is not a good thing, however poverty in this country would be wealth in another.  Further, what does being poor have to do with living in garbage.  I have seen poor people that keep their places clean and neat. They want out of their situation and are doing the best they can. I don't mind helping this group of people  If they are too lazy to clean up their mess, then they have no desire to do anything but lay on their rear ends and collect from the government. Those people deserve nothing because they make to effort to more forward.

I do missionary work outside the U.S. and what the rest of the world considers poverty is a far cry from what the U.S. considers poverty. That teenager working the window at McDonalds is in the top 7% of global wage earners. The per capita income of some of the villages I work in is less than $300.00 per annum. Dirt floor shacks, cholera, dysentery, malaria, intestinal worms are part of life. Medical care is non-existant except for what we provide.

We were born rich by virtue of being born in the U.S.

Actually the whole mess that this country is in can be summed up in one short

sentence.  The politics of greed, corruption, and stupidity..  And tha greed, corruption,

and stupidity is not limited to just the public sector.  Nor is it limited to a particular

political pary.

The American people also must share some odf the  blame for electing what has passed

dor leaders in the past 35 years.

Some of these incomes are higher than mine - and the places are better looking. Guess I'm worse off than I thought. "Poor" doesn't mean lazy or stupid. I'm sure this list doesn't make anyone's day.
