Once again we have typical examples of liberal states making it harder and harder for ANYONE to survive!  The vast majority of these states are liberal, democrat controlled and have never seen a tax they did not like.  No wonder a majority of retirees move to more conservative states with lower tax burdens, lower cost of living, and a better standard of life!

blamebush Yes those liberal states have socialism which is against the foundation of our Republic. The democrat philosophy of tax and spend has not changed. Today is the 150 anniversery of the Gettysburg Address and who was opposed to abolishing slavery-DEMOCRAT. That holds true today as the Democrat philosophy has the Afro americans and latinos trapped in financial slavery. As a result they rely on assistance from the government for survival and this is why minorities keep voting the ones holding them in fanancial slavery in. Its a dirty trick that has worked for several years.

Ret military...grew up in NY, lived in FL, TN, VA, DC, Cali during service; with exception to TN & FL, taxes very high. Moved to AZ for my post military job; fairly tax friendly. In Oct, took a Fall trip to New England; spoke to many (about 20 people/couples) residents that were small store owners; they all had the same complaint...high taxes. Nearly all of them were planning to leave the State (Mass, NH, VT, Conn and Maine were places we talked to residents) upon retirement and head to FL, a few even mentioned AZ. Taxes, death, and more taxes!

Gee, that my home state of Oregon, which has had nothing but Democrat governors for the last 30 years, is 6th on this list is hardly a surprise. We've had soooooo many Californians move here and destroy this state with socialism.

Crap article shows pictures of NYC, SF etc - doesn't mention outrageous city taxes. Even a HS student would do more research than the junk found on MSN. But then again MSN is a big fan of taxes as their leader LOVES taxes.

My modest home in NJ is on a nasty beat up pot hole infested  road no sewers . no sidewalks, no curbs, no street lights and rotten public services yet gets hit with over $9,000 a year for Property Tax alone!

Sales tax is 7% and we get taxed on pretty much everything we even have a death tax !  Thank God a group named Hands Across New Jersey got a tax on toilet paper repealed !!!!

.....no surprise that 80% -- are liberal blue states.................

Their mantra is tax the middleclass and above very high rates, so that they can give your hard earned tax money to the social parasites.

I lived in NJ and got tired of paying $12,000 per year in property taxes for a 2,900 sq. ft. home. The unions, illegals mexicans and the unemployed blacks are financially killing the state funds.

Unlike some states (and our federal government) we made it a state law that we must run a balanced budget.
