This article is recycled from a couple weeks ago! But anyway, it's pretty clear that the most affordable places to live are Republican controlled states. Contrary to what Democrats say, Republican policy creates business friendly environments which in turn creates jobs. The cost of living is low because the governments don't have to tax the heck out of people to pay the bills. Take notes liberals, California and New York aren't working. How is that soda ban going?
That "average" price for a home in the Jackson, Ms. area made me burst out laughing!..must have been in the more upper crust neighborhoods, def. Not for we regular type folks! In this county, north of Jackson, it is possible to find a decent home for less than $30,000. We lived in CT. for a few years, where the cost of living was unbelievably ridiculous..I could not imagine how those even less fortunate than we were at the time could afford even the most basic life for their families and still keep going. The taxes there are sky high alone, for everyone..

I have been told my whole life that the cost of living in the Midwest meaning Missouri and IL was the cheapest place to live in the country. The truth is its all the same matter where you go. If you live in NYC your rents and housing is expensive, however if you have as little as a HOLD the door job at an apartment building you can make it, because the salaries fit within your means of paying for living. If you live in Missouri or IL there are no good jobs you make 10th of what you would make for the same job in NYC. Your housing is cheaper BUT NOT cheap because it will absorb everything you make. This is just another way the government keeps the poor, poorer. I have found that even though your housing might be cheap in the Midwest everything else is more expensive. They important everything to get into country areas and the cost of cars and gas are way off the wall because everything is to far away. For example in NYC you can take a bus, subway, a train to get to work. Make an average salary of 60,000 a year at real average job the allows you to still be able to eat, shop , and feed your kids. . However in the Midwest very few transportation outfits go from where you live to where you work an the employer only hires at minimum wage, someone they know personally. If you are lucky enough to own a car that runs well and put gas in it instead of feeding your kids, it takes two gallons of gas at 4.00 a gallon to get to work and two to get home. That's forty bucks a week out of your hot 340.00 before tax paycheck. I don't know how people ever say that the Midwest is cheaper to live in, if you can't make your bills, you just can't make your bills... Broke is Broke. I don't care if you are Republican or Democrat. The way this stuff was design it all about keeping the Rich-Rich and the poor Poorer. Because who is go to pay for either side. The Rich stay rich by paying a BAD WAGE. And not being taxed at the same rate as everybody else. The poor stay poor because they have to work for the very cheap rich that don't want you to succeed or have what they have-And the government Matter what side just wants you to keep paying for their already set in stone salaries and pensions.... here is a Secret THE BIGGEST DISCRIMINATION IN THIS COUNTRY IS RICH AND POOR NOT BLACK AND WHITE. Get a grip people.....

Very easy for you to figure this one out from a live long NYer, never and I mean never vote for a Dumbocrat. And never and I mean never fall for the lack of public service worker union members who want more and more, money, benefits and less work. The teachers, cops, firemen etc will kill you with their demands, every big blue Dumbocrats state is loaded with them. And lastly don't pay the single moms with the baby daddy layin up in the crib pphat stacks of cash for doing what she does best, spreading her legs. Remember those three and you will keep your taxes down.

Here in illinois, everything is very expensive. Especially for Americans. Nothing is free for us.
I guess that's why there are so few Americans left here. Come to Waukegan and you won't have to go anywhere else to see the rest of the world. I should say 3rd world. Everything is free here, that is   if you're illegal. The cops aren't even allowed to mess with you if you're illegal here.
Hope and change, you gotta love that dumbocrat party.

Live within your means and you can live anywhere on a budget. PERIOD! Any wherever you live (Williston, ND for example) the price of housing will rise and fall with the average wages in the area. That is why 70K a year in one state has you living like a king, while in another you are a pauper

Texas may be a cheap state to live in by your parameters, but property taxes can be outrageous. Some areas of the state pay up to 5% per year of the home's value which mean you can potentially pay more for property taxes than for the mortgage.

In other words, you never really own your home.

Unfortunately, most of these cheap places to live are not anywhere I'd want to live.  Especially being a Brotha!
