In this article every town has a beautiful picture of the city except Flint. Why is that?. I live near Flint and although we have some very blighted areas there are still some beautiful areas too. We get so much bad press. It just makes it more difficult  to make any progress.

Where I live in Illinois, we have one small town of 3000 people where they have lost 1200 jobs.  This is due to the 2 major employers they had moving to other states.  These jobs will not come back and the county in general is in very bad shape.  And it won't get better as no new employers will come to this area.  You have to drive 30 or more miles to find a job if you are lucky enough to get one.  They are usually low paying jobs which takes half your pay due to high gas prices.  I can't believe we are the only area experiencing this type of mess, but you never hear about it.  Only how things are supposed to be getting better.  Right, for the people who are already rich.

Writing of the Ancient Athenians, historian Edward Gibbon said, “In the end, more than freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all – security, comfort, and freedom. When the Athenians finally wanted not to give to society but for society to give to them, when the freedom they wished for most was freedom from responsibility, then Athens ceased to be free and was never free again.”

If that isn't a description of today's Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, Barak Obama, California liberal (they broadcast and tout their extreme socialist agenda every day), you tell me what is.

And if you think we aren't circling the drain as the Athenians once did, you're eitehr not paying attention or you're propagandized by our media to the point of brain death.

It seems that everything the obama administration is doing is counteractive to what needs to be done, some say that this great nation is recovering despite the woes that they are imposing on everything to impede growth, all you have to do is look around an  listen to the strife that has gripped most of the people that do not want a handout.  Freedom is what people came to america for in the first place, seems that evil follows everywhere, if you don't fight back you will become nothing more that a small  insect that they will step on.  Heavy, dark days are ahead if you let the current people in power have their way.  Look at the American Indians and what happened to us, learn from the mistakes that were made in the past and go foward . This place that we call home is in danger of being destroyed by greed, lies, and lots of bad persons.

@Bela,

How old are you? What adult in their right mind would concoct a post like yours? Farty Fran, Doody Dodd, OBOMBO???? You sound like a 5 year old. First and foremost, GROW UP! Secondly, if you are on the right, a conservative, tea party, whatever.....you are indicative of everything that is wrong with the republicans. Lastly, GROW UP!!!!!!!

Michael Coats: agreed.

1) Bring back manufacturing and/or do NOT import from other Countries: China has been trying to poison this Country for decades and all those I-phone/pad/pod/people are basically enriching the Chinese governement and allowing for them to strengthen and support North Korea, as just one example of their duplicity and hate for Westerners.

2) Bring back ALL customer service operations to America: I'm sick and tired of calling Office Depot, Chase, Citibank, etc... and getting people in India, Thailand, Philipens, etc... SICK of it.

I'v closed my accounts because of this.

3) Tax the companies that have moved their operations elsewhere: Nike, Adidas, etc... you want to sell your products in the USA? Then MAKE them in the USA.

We MUST find a way to throw out all the politicians in government at this time: the "voting" isn't working - this is no longer a Democracy, this is a farce.

Why is economic environment so bleak? The two main reasons are,

the first one is very oblivious.

The off shoring of manufacturing and services:

Both parties are to blame for this. The have pitched their lies about how the Global Economy would be good for America.  The only thing this did accomplish is to allow the competitors of the United States access to innovative technology. At one time the United States had the monopoly on this. Now they can compete on the so called “Level playing field.” A true level playing field is for the competitors of America to create their own technology and compete with America that way. That is true competition. NAFTA has showed it true colors.

The second and probably more damaging:

The failure of Capitalism

I am a true believer in pure Capitalism, It has proven to work quite well when left alone.

Capitalism you can equate to a fire. For combustion you need Oxygen. In Capitalism you need ideas (innovation). Ideas are what makes any economy breath. For combustion you need a source of ignition. In capitalism you need competition (It is the heat that drives innovation).  In combustion you need fuel. In Capitalism you need very good business decision makers (If good decisions are not made the company will fail.) Flames and Capitalism need three basic components to thrive. Remove one component and failure will occur.

When the government prop up companies that should fail due to the lack of innovation, or bad decision making, it will always stops innovation in its tracks. Smaller companies with fresh new ideas are not able to thrive and how could they in this type of environment. This also creates a lack of competition, another death blow for Capitalism.

We need to elect officials that have basic understanding of this. Capitalism is on its death bed right now. We as Americans need to fix it before it is to late.

For starters lets get real with the semantics, this is a full blown depression we are dealing with here folks. Home prices have fallen by a larger percentage than the 1929 depression and unemployment is nearly as bad and has is actually trended worse the last 3 months. The BLS is now inventing jobs out of thin air using "seasonal adjustments" and calling it a recovery. This depression is identical to 1929 in that the evil "Fed" pumped excess credit and money into the system leading up to 1929 (remember the roaring 20s) then pulled the plug on the party and crashed the economy just like now.

All these boom/bust cycles are caused by the reckless policies of the Fed, and these policies only

benefit the elite of this country. Their newest plan is to debase the dollar into confetti. The reason gas and food prices are going up is because the dollar is going down along with our standard of living. As a nation we must make it a number one priority to get rid of the Fed to regain control of the minting and issuance of our currency  . There will never be any real recovery until then.

Bela, you may be right on that issue, but you are also forgetting that most Red States have the highest concentration of public assistance, food stamps, public housing, etc. We all need to realize that not just half of us get our way every 4 years, we need to work on advancing Everybody. We need to force our American Corporations to hire American workers. I grew up in a time where American products ruled the world. If it was good enough for Americans, it was good enough for anyone. Now we have cheap electronics coming from China and Japan, and the only real American electronics company left is RCA, (Really Crappy Appliances).
We need to start from the foundation and restructure our civilization where it is fair for all, not just rich, privileged elitists.

I'd like to see a USA where people aren't labeled the minute they have an opinion, I'd like to see a USA where people RESPECT each other, and most of all, I'd like to see a USA where we come TOGETHER and FIX things, not point fingers, type derogatory comments, and allow politicians to get in the way of our progress as a Nation.

What we need to do is not fight along partisan lines but sit back and realize we are all HUMANS and we need to treat, and be treated, as such. The USA was founded on "For the People, By the People" and frankly, that doesn't exist anymore.

It's an election year, so which ever way the media favors, it will tend to report in a slant that helps the sitting president or help the hopeful. It's a case of don't believe your lying eyes, hungry stomach and empty wallet; believe what I tell you. Get as many of the facts from as many sources as you can and come to your own conclusion. I'll bet it'll be a far sight closer than any party will admit. For those that didn't lose their jobs in this recession, it's not as worse. For those who did or their dollar just couldn't stretch any further, it's still as bad as 2008.

One more 8 year party by the Republicans and we will never recover.  Our politicos need to spend their time improving the lot of the masses instead of worrying about their power.
