I find it interesting that there were 6 items listed before there actually was a life-sustaining comsumable product. Call me naive, but if I were sitting in the middle of a post-apocolyptic "desert," that gold bar and a gem-studded painting of Blue Boy ain't gonna do me a bit of good. IMHO the product at the top of the list should be Spam.

We hunt fish gather garden and can . Cut wood , hand pump water , no city sewer to back up on us . High ground to cover any approach . Neighbors that think the same , and are willing to do what is needed together when/ if the time comes . No city lights , no yard lights , when it's dark here , it's darker than the inside of a cow ! We know every inch of the 32 square miles of forest around us . Hoard your jewels, gold, and art , then eat them when you are hungry !

Food, water, guns, seeds, and CASH is what I think .  Who will purchase your gems, art, gold and silver in hard times?  Just not easily converted to cash.  Petroleum would be dangerous to hoard for most people.  If it gets this bad most people in the US will not survive as they do not have a clue when it comes to survival.

Who writes this tripe? And how do they get paid for such rubbish?  

How about learning some new real-life skills - say one new skill a month, for 2013? Learn to invest. Learn to fix your computer/iPhone/iPad​. Change your car's oil. 

We need less hoarding and more learning.

A couple of points....first, if you "hoard" real estate, you are also accumulating the one thing on this list that government will tax HEAVILY every year until it no longer belongs to you. Second, if firearms are really a last ditch effort at survival, you don't need to hoard anything else. It simply comes down to the last man standing as we shoot it out for the last crumb. Which is a short way of saying how silly this whole notion of hoarding is. We either sink or swim together at this point.

How about hoarding knowledge?  Learn survival skills, like how to eat and treat illness and injury using what's available in nature.  How to build shelter and use solar power.  How to protect the real estate you have, and how to work together instead of against eachother.  We always keep both pantries stocked with dry and canned goods, along with water and other bottled drinks, and first aid supplies and basic meds.  I have horses and I know how to do basic vet care and trim their hooves.  If we don't have vehicles, I can get around.  I taught my daughter the same skills.  The gems and gold may have usefulness if one needs to trade them for something, but there is truth to the words "knowledge is power".

If the s**t hits the fan, the organization that will be in charge is the military.  They are as self-sufficient as any organization can be, they have more firepower, and an administrative organization built in.  That's right, martial law, folks.  They will be happy to use your gold, seeds, etc.

Look, if I have to start stock piling things to take advantage of people then I would be just like the idiots who think the Democrats are tying to help my poor ****. They just want me to be happy giving them what little money I do have. I would like the doors to not be closed for me to be rich some day. It seems that the majority of America is truly retarded in that they actually think that some one in the government cares about them. Maybe they just gave up on working at some thing that makes you stronger and better even if you never get rich. Consider how much Romney and Obama raised on this last campaign. They could have paid a large amount of that crap off. They wont do anything that solves a problem because then they have nothing to gripe about to get elected. I don't like any of those politicians at all and don't trust any of them but I think the least amount of regulation is still the best thing for our soon not to be free country.

For one, if you to 'hoard' stuff, it's best to have enough MRE's and canned food on hand. Hoarding seeds is for long term survival. For short term water storage, get a Water Bob for your bath tub. If the power goes out, so will the pumps that pump water to your house so just as well get as much as you can. For long term water storage, canned water is best with water purification and reclaiming techniques as a supplement.

I would of agreed with the gold/silver part except that's for a world with an economy that can use precious metals. INSTEAD, your currency is supplies which include (but not limited to) medical supplies, batteries, generators, gas, AMMO, etc. What the hell good is a gun if you can't shoot it?!

Yes, I can imagine it.  A dirty bomb attack, a genetically engineered virus, etc, etc.

 

And the will to live is pretty strong. Once you get close to starvation, nature kicks in.  I guess the author is just going to lay down and die, though.

Glenn Beck's seeds are a sham. Untrustworthy sources, low germination, lower fertility, etc.

The envelopes you get at the hardward store are probably shoddy too. There are a few trusted names out there for highest quality seed that is not hybridized or genetically modified organisms (GMO = bad)

 

go for all your non-GMO seeds and other survival info. I've been growing them at home for years and have a preserved stockpile staying cool in my bugout location.

They also have water filtration in bug-out supply kits, potassium iodate (iodide) for protection from nuclear fallout and radiation, books on how to live off the land, etc.

 

a true MUST HAVE resource!

The article said that congress is slightly more trustworthy than a used car salesman.  I beg to differ!  Congress is far less trustworthy than a used car salesman.  Any third grade math teacher could do a better job on the budget than the losers on capital hill.
