New Coke wasn't a flop. It was the most incredible coup in the processed food world. Coke intentionally introduced an inferior product and took their "classic" product off the shelf instead of having the products sell side by side. New Coke sucked (as planned) and 79 days later brought Classic Coke back. Just one thing, Classic Coke was now made with high fructose corn syrup instead of sugar. All this was orchestrated to switch to the cheaper HFCS and to prevent any comparison in taste difference (real or perceived) from the sweetener change. Coke tanked sales for 3 months in order to switch to an ingredient that has saved them billions over the years.

Go buy kosher Coca-Cola (yes they make this) which is still made with real sugar, since chemically trans-mutated corn sugar isn't considered kosher, and take a taste test with regular Coke. Is there enough taste difference that consumers would have caused a stink?

As an employee of a grocery store (back in the day) I warned people about Olestra and its **** leakage. 99% of people didn't know about the side affects and promptly chose not to buy the chips. Of course my manager overheard and threatened to fire me stating it wasn't my place to warn customers about potential **** leaks.

God forbid someone do the right thing at the cost of profit.

Look at what Coke stock prices did... just before introducing New Coke to the year following when Classic Coke was popular.  Brilliant business move!

Olestra a flop...?  Sure enough!  I ate these ONE time and barely made it the bathroom for the
"side effects".   So sick, so very fast.

Wish someone would sue over these, but they are really bad.

Sony buying a movie studio and only releasing on Blu-ray, is what really doomed HD DVD.

My mom had a package of celery flavored Jello but she never used it. I still have the empty box. Through away the packet though because it grossed me out. :P

Tell SHRM, they still think the new Coke was the best thing going.  In their 2007 SPHR questions, they support using the exact same strategy.
