Is Obamacare a 'bullet to the temple'?

Bernie Marcus, who co-founded Home Depot in 1979, says the massive health care insurance overhaul will 'kill off small business.'

In an interview with Newsmax TV at a summit for Job Creators Alliance, a group that advocates for small businesses, Marcus took aim at a wide range of government regulations, including the Environmental Protection Agency and Dodd-Frank. But he reserved his harshest criticism for the Affordable Care Act, which goes into effect next year.

"Obamacare is going to kill off small business," Marcus said, according to the Huffington Post. "Obamacare is the capper. That's the bullet to the temple."

The ACA is proving to be a lightning rod for business owners. Many object to the provision requiring employers with 50 or more full-time workers (30 hours or more per week) to offer "minimum essential" health care insurance.

Dunkin' Brands (DNKN) is lobbying the government to change that definition to 40 hours a week, while a study issued last month projected the cost of underlying claims could jump by one-third under Obamacare. The Obama administration has insisted that the law will trim the overall cost of health care.

"If I own a restaurant and have 120 people working for me and I'm barely making it today, and I look at Obamacare, I have to explain to my employees what's happening," Marcus said. "I have to say to them, 'Look, if I cover you, I don't know if I'm going to survive.'"

Small-business owners not only receive little help from the government, but they're facing a regulatory environment that has one goal, and that's "to stop you in your tracks," Marcus said.

When he started Home Depot, he added, the company didn't face the types of regulations and barriers that small-business owners deal with in 2013.

The son of Russian immigrants who grew up in a tenement, Marcus doesn't believe the government's unemployment figures and other data indicating the economy is improving. The unemployment rate might be as high as "14% to 15%," he said. "Take into consideration people who work part time" but want full-time jobs. "The economy isn't good," he added.

Democrats hate small business.   They are socialists.  The good part about this is that it will protect established business, and really help to punish the poor and will help eliminate the middle the middle class.   The nanny state will grow, the economy collapse and the democrats will take the blame...

REMEMBER:  The democrats rammed this down our throats.  The are 100% responsible for the content.   This will increase healthcare costs 100% for those that have it now.  It will be ENTIRELY the democrats fault.  You will know who to blame for the mess and who to vote out of office...

Democrats are destroying everything this nation was founded on.

They want everyone to be equal and have the same.  Regardless of how

hard you have worked for it.

The america you remember, is done,  sorry,  47 million losers, getting freebies, will guarantee a republican will never be elected again, sad...

I own a software company that I started in 2000 with a lot of hard work.  In the first couple of years I was very profitable as a one-man company and I was bringing in $480,000 a year.  Then I started hiring employees and was up to 90 workers when Owebama took over.  I'm no GWB fan since he was a liberal but at least he was a great friend to small business.

I didn't want a company with a lot of overhead like a HR dept.  I also decided to offer zero benefits.  That's right, zero benefits.  So how would I recruit and keep great talent?  Easy.  Pay them a sh_tload of money.  Then they can buy their own benefits if they want.  Or not if they choose.  It's called freedom.  I pay about 35% over the going rates here in South Florida.  Now my company is lean and mean with most of my employees technical folks and only a few finance / accounting people and a few salesmen.

And then you independents and Hispanics elected this moron Owebama.  Then everything I worked so hard came crashing down.  Now I will get killed by obamacare.  So I am laying off over 60% of my people and will bring them back as part-timers or consultants.  Of course they won't be making $90,000 a year anymore.  I'm sure many will go elsewhere.  My company will never be the same.  Many that do come back as part-timers will be bitter or not so motivated to a great job like they did in the past.  Morale will drop.  It already has actually, after I held a company meeting and told them what i was doing.

The only thing that brings a smile to my face is watching the expressions of my young, Owebama-voting workers when I tell them they are being moved to part-time status due to obamacare.  LOL!

Voting this dolt into office the first time was idiotic - voting him back in again was insane.

Mirage....the people that are thumbs down, don't own a business.  What you said is exactly right.  Obama could care less about smalll business.  He talks like he does but his policies speak otherwise.  He likes BIG business because he gets lot's of money from them for his CONTINUAL campaigning.  The less business owners the less JOBS.  This is where the democrats are taking us.  Only idiots can't see this and idiots don't own a business.

Well said.
Hope the people that voted for the Hope and Change BS are happy.
Unreal that folks bought into his crap.
Thanks Democrats

Obama care is going to ruin our country.  Businesses will go under, people will be un-insured or can't afford insurance.  It's going to be worse than ever to live in the Divided States.

When will the LIBERAL MEDIA finally figure out that Obamacare is bad for EVERYONE ???????
Apr 12, 2013 2:27PM
Nothing about Obamacare will save anyone a dime. It hasn't even been fully enacted and it's impact is being felt already with higher premiums and businesses holding back on hiring and capitol investment. Big business knows anything the government takes on in the area of healthcare is bound to be a disaster of epic proportion with out of control costs, huge administrative spending, and red tape like medicare only on a larger scale.
Apr 12, 2013 2:23PM
Yes indeed!  An absolute killer.  Thanks supreme court morons!

"Death to small business". That is exactly what he wants it to do. He wants large businesses controlled by the government. The only way that can happen is force the smaller businesses out by making it impossible to function.

Marcus is right. The government has bee lying about the unemployment figures, because when someone falls off the unemployment rolls due to time expired, they are not longer considered unemployed even though they still do not have a job. This is how the government only tells the partial truth. Obama is destroying this country and he will go down in history as the worst president this country ever put in office. As a friend of mine stated. We have the president the liberals voted for. And when they find out they are in the same boat and it is sinking they are either going to realize they were had, or they will go back to blaming George Bush. Ironic they want to blame someone when in fact the democrats have been in power almost tem years now and they have done nothing to improve anything..

Apr 12, 2013 2:13PM
This was a bad idea?  Really?  Wow, I am shocked.  I mean with a guy as qualified as Obama in the oval office how could this be bad?
Apr 12, 2013 2:20PM
I think Bernie has it right and if the healthcare don't kill them the taxes will....get ready America for more people on assisted care, unemployment and disabilities......death to the working class.
Apr 12, 2013 2:32PM
It will KILL small business.  Funny how the democrats are the first ones to protest Walmart etc... but they are making it so only walmart can stay in business.  Just like Obama care.  You want to see what happens when you have free health care, free education, free housing, no incentive to work for yourself?  Drive out to the reservation and see how they live.  It isn't good for anyone to have a "free" ride!

hey, HANG IN THERE PEOPLE!! I like to take the 'glass half full' approach to this nightmare, obamacare is so overwhelmingly complicated, so American Dream destroying that there won't be anyone that can implement this no matter how much they try, the democraps have had their moment in the sun so to speak, even hitler's empire collapsed after 6yrs, we're 5yrs into the obamaINSANEnation and his administration is coming to an end as well, we're disrespected by every anti American nation you can think of, the mid east is in worst shape than ever before thanks to the democrapic party, obama's living like royalty while the rest of America is mired in staggering unemployment, and he's going down in the popularity polls as we speak, so are his ENTIRE leftist ideas, even the loony leftist in the media can't keep covering for this pig Marxist without proving to the world what shills they are for the socialist agenda, hell even jay z is dissin' his bro in that stupid rap 'open letter'

so don't be too harsh with this moron he's too stupid and lives to much into his own narcissistic life that he doesn't even know cuba is off limits, even when osama gave him the OK to go there! the man's a moron people, seriously, so's his slutbag skank of a wife beyonce, but everyone knows that, so not to despair, obamacare is like a beached blue whale, so massive and heavy it'll collapse from it's own immense weight, just hang in there a little while longer.

Obama will kill the America that we knew and loved.

Once he makes the "illegals"  legal, America is doomed.
