HOW STOCKSCOUTER WORKS
StockScouter rates stocks from 1 to 10, with 10 being the best, using a system of advanced mathematics to determine a stock's expected risk and return. Ratings are displayed on a bell curve, meaning there will be fewer ratings of 1 and 10 and far more of 4 through 7.

MSN Money's StockScouter lets you:
1. View a stock's overall rating and get a brief synopsis of its risk factors and expected returns.
2. Get quick pros and cons about a stock, including updates on analyst opinions and valuation factors.
3. See a stock's expected risks and returns at a glance.
HOW STOCKS ARE RATED
StockScouter compares the fundamental and technical qualities of stocks to measures that have proven statistically predictive of stock performance in the past.
StockScouter then assigns an expected six-month return to each stock based on this statistical profile and balances that return against expected volatility.
The ratio of expected return to expected volatility, or "risk," yields the stock's final overall rating.
