At work the other day we were waxing nostalgic...Everything used to have it's own jingle.  Seeing all these "old" products reminds me how neat it was to grow up in the 50's and 60's...Tv was more fun and clean...commercials were for everything from beer to zagnut candy.  Cigarette and beer commercials and even hard liquor.  Every car had it's own song too. Dinah Shore..."See the USA in your Chevrolet"...just one.  "Winston tastes good like a cigarette should" another.  Oh I could go on forever...and I'm not that ancient age wise.  It is just so much has changed in the last 30 years. The innocence that once was America is gone.  The jobs that these companies provided were outsourced or lost because we out priced ourselves.  I wish young people now could know those days of small stores and factories in every little town in America.  When US Stainless was king...And Detroit was the car manufacturer of the world...Those were wonderful days.

Chunky Bar also went away for awhile, but then came back. And can Rosie O'Donnell be charged with killing McCall's magazine?

What do I remember the most about McCall's - being five or six and cutting out the figures and/or outfits to put on Betsy McCall.  (The outfits had white foldover tabs so you could place the outfit over the shoulder of Betsy to see the new look.  Can you imagine kids today spending the time or having the interest?

I remember 6-12 mosquito repellant.  It smelled like DDT but it sure did the job long before OFF came out.  Anybody remember BOSCO for your milk...Bosco gives me iron and sunshine vitamin D... as the commercial went.  You can still get OVALTINE but I can't find POSTUM.  PEZ candy is still available but it's not as tart.  When thirsty I drank HYDROX soda or NEHI orange, you can still get them but they come from Mexico now.  For you beer lovers remember PEARL, OLD CHICAGO, BLATZ, LONE STAR...are they still around?  Getting shiny hair for the gals meant BRECK shampoo.  You can still get LAVA soap but hard to find.  How about those teeth...Bucky Beaver used IPANA toothpaste and so did I.  For men's slick hair there was BRYL CREAM a little dab will do 'ya.  My dad had a SCHICK electric razor that lasted from 1947 until the motor finally burned out in 1979.  Finally, how can we forget the Chevy CORVAIR, Ford FALCON or EDSEL with push button drive.  Or the Ford FAIRLANE hard top convertible.  And the big gas guzzlers like the Buick Electra Duce-And-A-Quarter (225).  Maybe 8 MPG if you had a light foot.  Miss them all.

love the look back .  So sad that there's so many more brands that no longer are made or better still no longer made in the good old USA.

I am a diehard TAB fan and it is still out there with all its saccharin sweetbess.  Most of the grocery stores in New England still carry this tonic.  I recall with equal fondness Fizzies.

What? I can get Tab at the grocery store two miles away right now if I like. That's in Boulder. It was in my grocery store in Seattle too. Not gone.

I miss electronic brands that were made in USA,  Philco,RCA Victor and Zenith to name a few...All the buys I made years ago of these brands meant the were reliable and inexpensive to repair. You wouldn't believe all the flat screen TVs and computers that are recyled in this "throw away and buy new" society we have today.....

Guitarzan... I worked at International Harvester, here in Milwaukee, when I was a wee lad of 18 (1959) so I'm old enough to remember when "Chinese junk" meant a type of boat.

International Harvester.  When I go to the auto parts store and ask for parts, the kid behind the counter invariably says, "What's an International?"

Why is TAB in the list?  I think the stuff is awful but it is definitely NOT gone and it has NOT been forgotten.  I know many diet drinkers who prefer it over the dozens of others than have come and gone since Tab was introduced.

As I remember, TAB started with both sodium saccharin & sodium cyclamate. It was the sodium cyclamate that was the cancer scare and was pulled from the market. Unfortunately, we got that "diet aftertaste" without it..

The Amiga might be gone, however, the Commodore 64 is back and in production. Search the net.

Tab had to be THE most vile so-called "soda" in the history of soft drinks! Even my garden slugs wouldn't touch it!
