Obama taps Sotomayor for Supreme Court
Would be the first Hispanic justice on the court
President Barack Obama this morning nominated federal appellate Judge Sonia Sotomayor to replace Justice David Souter on the U.S. Supreme Court.
If confirmed, Sotomayor would be the first Hispanic justice on the court. She would also be the third female justice.
The 54-year-old graduated from Princeton University and Yale Law School after growing up in a housing project in the Bronx. She was selected as a federal trial judge by President George Bush in 1992, and President Bill Clinton promoted her to the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York in 1998.

[BRIEFING.COM] The stock market ended the Tuesday session on a lower note after generally upbeat earnings took the back seat to geopolitical concerns. The S&P 500 (-0.5%) and Nasdaq Composite (-0.1%) ended on their lows, while the Russell 2000 (+0.3%) displayed relative strength.
