Obamas downsize Martha's Vineyard vacation rental

The house stands on 9.5 acres and has floor-to-ceiling windows, 4 bedrooms, and views of the Atlantic Ocean.

President Obama is once again headed to Martha's Vineyard for a family vacation. But this time around, the Obamas are downsizing to a contemporary 5,000-square-foot property, Bloomberg's Julianna Goldman reported on Friday.

The rental house stands on 9.5 acres and has floor-to-ceiling windows, four bedrooms, and views of the Atlantic Ocean, according to Goldman. There is an attached two-bedroom guest house. It was designed by architect Rick Sundberg and completed in 2006.

"While the first family is there they can swim in the infinity pool, they could shoot hoops on a half basketball court, even hit the gym," she said in the report. "They could also play tennis on the tennis court there."

The property has an estimated value of $7.6 million, and is located in the town of Chilmark, Mass.

The first family's previous vacation house was sold to British architect Norman Foster in 2011 for $22.4 million, according to Goldman. Known as the Blue Heron Farm, that 28.5-acre property featured a golf course, horse barn, and a swimming pool. The main house at that property is 5,118 square feet, while total living space covers 13,327 square feet.

This is the fourth time Obama has vacationed on Martha's Vineyard as president. His family's visit will run Aug. 10-18.

Future vacation rental home for President Obama and his family at Martha’s VineyardThe Obama's new vacation house is owned by David Schulte, a managing general partner at Chilmark Partners. Schulte has donated to both of Obama's presidential campaigns, his U.S. Senate campaign and the Democratic National Committee, according to Goldman.

While Goldman did not identify Obama's broker, she said that he specializes in Martha's Vineyard spots for politicians. He found them the Blue Heron Farm property and has worked with President Bill Clinton and Jordanian royalty.

"He's well-versed in the needs of security details so the home that the Obamas will be staying at is on the south shore," she said in the report. "It's a preferred destination when you have these kinds of security needs."

Goldman said the property's guest house could possibly be used by Secret Service agents.

She noted that the first family is picking up part of the tab for their vacation.

"As always, the White House says the cost for the vacation is split between the Obamas and the taxpayers, but the president and the first lady are paying for the cost of the rental home," she said in the report.

If  he were any kind of real president, he and his family would skip the vacation.  Third vacation this year.  The first family are nothing but partiers and could care less about the country and the people living here.

Obama is always on vacation.  He never works.  What a pathetic President!

Also, Obama should give Martha's Vineyards vacations to families in need of a real vacation.  Let someone get it who deserves it.

No doubt they will pay their portion using Abamanomics which means using other peoples money as usual. I worked over thirty-five years for a company and didn't get as many vacation days per year as he has already taken this year.  must be nice.

Hey America are we sure that this place is ok for him, after all he is the President, and money (taxpayer money) is no object!

Only in America, do we the taxpayer pick up the tab for this and most other elected officials.

What a country!

I hope those losers enjoy their vacation on my dime. When we go on vacation, the taxpayer doesn't have to pay for it, I do.

He makes me sick.  This country is so screwed up and every time you turn around this idiots going on vacation.  What does he care he knows he can't be re-elected again.  He has had more vacations this year alone than most of us can afford to take in a year.  By far the worst president we ever had...makes Bush look like a saint. Jerk!

His highness finds it most objectionable that you peons discuss any expenses that are a necessary to establish a temporary residence befitting his deservedly better lifestyle.

One must remember while he agrees that all are created equal, his highness is among those that should be considered more equal than others.

That is because the U.S. taxpayer is paying for everything else...

That and I had no idea the salary of the POS was that high that he could afford a 3rd vacation already this year,

You guys are being way too rough on the POTUS.  This guy is exhausted trying to figure out how to take more of our money.  You have no idea how hard socialism is.  Poor guy has to also fend off those rascally Republicans.
