US still in recession? Most Americans say yes
A new poll shows that 54% of the country thinks the economy is spiraling.
A new McClatchy-Marist poll shows that 54% of respondents think the country is still in a recession. About a third think the recession is over, and 8% aren't sure.
It doesn't take an economic degree to see why. Although the economy is recovering in fits and starts, many Americans are still unemployed or underemployed. They're working more part-time jobs, one of the largest categories for new employment in the recovery. They're also seeing smaller paychecks after the payroll tax rate returned to 6.2% in January.
Mortagages are still underwater, and housing loans are tough to get. Interest rates are so low that saving money seems fruitless.
In short, it just doesn't feel like we're in a recovery.
But there is good news. The 54% who think we're in a recession is down from the 63% who felt the same way in March. In fact, the percentage of Americans holding this opinion is at its lowest point since 2008.
Another interesting note from the poll is that Americans are pretty evenly split about whether things will get better economically for them in the next year. Nearly a third said yes, a third said their situation will be worse, and a bit more than a third said things will stay the same.

Absolutely still in recession. Higher gas prices, more expensive tollways and other auto costs... Check! Higher food, beer, cigarette, income, sales and other taxes... Check! Higher insurance costs... Check! Higher cost of living all around... Check!
Higher pay... Oh wait, that's right, I make less now than I did last year!
Our President makes Carter look like an economic genius. Obama is a lazy, arrogant, CORRUPT Imbecile. He is CLUELESS. His policies will set the middle class back for a generation. Young people will be buried in his debts. Their standard of living will we less than their parents.
His legacy will be to have been the worst President in history. Jimmy Carter used to the worst in the last 100 years (although LBJ came close), but Obama clearly is far worse. History will record him as such.
If this is not a recession, why does it act like one?
oh no! we're not in a depression, oops! recession! everything's just fantastic!! amazing!! awsum!!!greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaat!!! super!!! I mean we've got QE 1, 2, 3, 4, 556789909684096804980935093865037680495707905 to infinity goin' strong, right?? just print your way to poverty! oops! I meant prosperity, excuse me....
oh, right, right, ....that's just the narrative the idiot obamazombie morons want the rest of SANE and RATIONAL America to believe, now let's see the reality of the situation;;
Detroits in the Troilet, 4 cities in California just as lucky, true unemployment numbers are 14%, not the fictional 7.6% the Osama regime would have you believe, tons of UNDER employment besides the usual unemployment, not to mention the TEMP jobs people if they're lucky, they just might snag one!! millions on welfare of course, and the NEW WELFARE known as DISABILITY ins. so add that together and we've got 50,000,000 on some form of Public Assistance, don't you just love those 'nice' words libs come up with? anything to make it sound less of what it is WELFARE!!! on the DOLE!! HANDOUTS!! and for some of those people, well, they're outta work for years now of course they're on welfare! not all of them are chronic parasites, just thrust into welfare due to that pig divisive muslim disgracing the white house, so there you go...and of course Obama's gonna do what he does best, blame everything on 'Washington', yea, sure right, that fcuker IS WASHINGTON!!
everything that's happening in America is due to HIM and HIS ilk running the show, and NO ONE ELSE!!! the economy is not due to Republicans' blocking anything, they're to busy trying to appease those scumbag democraps so basically the Republicans, some of them, are just as big a problem as lefty loony democraps are, the Democraps squarely OWN THIS ECONOMIC DISASTER!! Period!
now don't you idiot low information guilt-ridden white/Jew/Catholic/Agnostic/Atheist/Baptist/Misc/Whatever voters feel more stupid each passing year knowing that you're responsible for all of this?? but anyway.....
recession?? what recession?? oh and wait people!! Obama's got a plan!! you see, a plan, he's the man wiff da plan!! but he's on a 100Million dollar vacation and then it's off to Martha's Vineyard for a 60K stay, weekend rates mind you...so there you go America! feel better?? especially you idiots that are unemployed STILL that voted for him, good!! you have soooooo much to think 'bout when you're looking for work and waiting for those call backs from employers that NEVER come, see that? elections have serous consequences don't they, oh you're payin thru the nose this time huh? well continue to, enjoy!
Did someone really have to ask if our economy has recovered???In case anyone really believes the lies that economists and Washington are cramming down our throats, This country is not going to "recover" to what it was anytime soon, its more like a "shake out". The excesses we all enjoyed in the past are history,The free rides will end, job security is a blast from the past.
Every time we catch a small break which could help the economy , like lower gas and fuel oil prices oil companies find a reason to raise the price, and the idiots in Washington just let it all happen, insurance companies are another one, GOUGING consumers and raising prices when average americans can least afford it.
The sad part is all us lazy Americans sit back and watch it all happen, because we're all too busy watching the Kardashians and living our sad little lives.
Untill people start coming out and Protesting and VOTING the bums out nothing will change. The rich keep us down, and working hard just to survive so theres no time or energy left for us to bitch.
Several years ago Congress raised retirement for my age group to 67, and there was hardly a wimper about it, but when 50 somethings like me want to retire it will hit home. Its time for us to speak out for change.
CHANG will come when we STOP giving tax money to foreign countries, you cant fix someone else's house when your own is falling down, when will Washington admit we're in trouble and stop giving away our money???
It's over now......nothing to see here.....move along.
