Check out eBay's new look
The auction site does a cut-and-paste from Pinterest to create a new, highly customized user experience.
The new site, which borrows heavily from Pinterest, encourages people to customize the page based on their interests. (See the new look here.) The new eBay relies heavily on photos, displaying them in the bold, tiled fashion first used in a big way by Pinterest and now by many, many others.
Users create a "feed" of items for sale. If you add designer Tory Burch as one of your interests, for example, your feed will start to fill with photos of Tory Burch items currently for sale.
The site's redesign is getting mixed reviews. "With the enormous amount of data eBay has accumulated over the years, the company is delving into personalization and curation in a big way," writes TechCrunch. "We know this is the future of ecommerce, so it’s a wise bet."
But Business Insider's Owen Thomas calls it a "crushing disappointment -- a glaring missed opportunity to take a more substantial leap forward and transform the eBay shopping experience."
It's a big redesign for eBay, but it's just a small step in the company's ongoing march toward more data mining, customization and social-networking tie-ins. It boldly pushes items in your face via the home page rather than having you hunt down things you like. That's a major change, and one that could either turn users off or spur them into more bids.
Then because I didn't buy postage from ebay the previous month of Dec-Jan due to printer going down,, I didn't get credit toward my shipping time percentages and had more than 15 sales and shipouts. Although I shipped next day or within 3. I think they're trying to force you to buy postage through them. Because they don't count shipping out directly at the US post office unless you enter a tracking number in the Items Sold section. That little bug in they're plan cost me 5 days of them holding my Paypal money from being released. It was there, they just wouldn't let me touch it till the item was delivered. And I provided the tracking number the next day. I'm just about through with them. What good is receiving instant paypments through paypal if you cant touch them for 5 days?Kinda defeats the purpose of Paypal which eBay owns.
Oh, freaking great... More IT guys screwing with things to justify their existance. I'm still pissed at youtube for their inane changes and now this.
How about the Chinee sellers who state that their items are in the US when actually the product is in China and they make you wait for the container to arrive then they send it on with US postage. I'm still waiting for a Micro SDHC card ordered on 1/31. All the rest of the stuff I ordered that day has arrived, the US items in less than a week and orders from England and China arrived today but no Micro SD card. Funny how that works.
