Sarah Palin in Tesla 'loser' dustup
The former governor of Alaska says the automaker benefits from wasted taxpayer money.
The former governor of Alaska took to Facebook (FB) to vent about electric car maker Fisker Automotive, which is firing 75% of its employees after failing to seal a funding deal.
Fisker got the green light for $529 million in low-interest loans from the U.S. government and drew down $193 million from that pot before officials blocked access to the remaining amount in 2011.
Palin said that Fisker "joins other past losers" like General Motors' (GM) Chevrolet Volt, which gets 40 miles per battery charge, and Tesla, which turns into a "brick" when the battery completely discharges and requires a $40,000 repair bill.
Here's a little more from Palin:
This is really just the latest manifestation of the administration's crony capitalism as their green energy buddies benefit from this atrocious waste of taxpayer money. Americans really need to get outraged by these wasteful ventures. As we’ve seen time and time again, We the People are always stuck subsidizing the left's "losers."
You can read her Facebook post here.
In 2010, Tesla received $465 million in loans from the Department of Energy. The company was supposed to pay the loans back over 10 years, but announced last month that it's repaying the money on an accelerated schedule and will finish payments five years ahead of schedule.
Musk responded to Palin's words with a bit of sarcasm. "Sarah Palin calls Tesla a loser," he wrote on Twitter. "Am deeply wounded." He added that the warranty for Tesla's Model S sedan does cover "bricking."
"We the People are always stuck subsidizing the left's 'losers'."
As opposed to subsidizing the right's "winners" -- the oil companies that keep us hooked on fossil fuels and continue to benefit from billions of dollars in exploration tax breaks and lucrative oil leases while they're making record profits?
As opposed to the financial firms that drove the country into ruin while politicians bent over backwards to ease the regulatory "burden" on them and make sure that hedge fund managers wouldn't have their share of their firms' profits taxed as personal income?
Jimmy Carter installed solar panels on the roof of the White House. Reagan took them down. Nowadays even ultra-conservatives should admit that solar is a cheaper, cleaner, more sustainable alternative energy source. But some people are so mired in the past that they actually fear change in the form of new technologies. They would drag us down into the La Brea tar pits (oh, I'm sorry -- I meant "oil sands") with them if they could.
Thank God, Sarah Palin wasn't around at the turn of the twentieth century when the "horseless carriage was in it's infancy. Tons and tons of Automobile companies went out of business. There were over 130 companies that went out of business beginning with the letter "A" alone.
Hybrid, Electric, and Hydrogen cars are the cars of the future.
Sarah Palin is the biggest loser....she couldn't finish out one term as Governor.....what a duh head she is .
How is that bridge to nowhere going? You sure know a thing about losing....
Wow! Loser.......really? That is rich. But as she fades off into another sunset (a 4 month long sunset) , she still keeps trying to be relevant. I wonder what she would have said about Pasteur, Columbus, and oh my God those silly Wright Brothers. This is exactly her party's view on everything progressive.
I long for the day she walks off into that sunset, RIGHT off the FLAT earth.
Once again Palin is mired in half truths. Anything to continue the hate band wagon. I used to be a republican, people like her claiming to have America ideals, is far from the truth. Tesla is and will pay off the Department of Energy in five years ahead of schedule, and will continue to grow as a leader in
green technology of automakers. So whoever paid you off, Palin to present us with another lie, isn't working. The proof is always in the pudding. In this case Tesla win hands down. Perhaps you spend to much time yelling Mush!
We should stand behind American companies who are striving to get us out of the stone age despite the powerful oil lobby and its backwards-minded representatives and minions. I don't know about Fisker but Tesla seems headed in the right direction. They should consider a hybrid model though.
The only thing electric Sarah understands is her vibrator......maybe.
After all, she has to turn it on so........
