Bill O'Reilly targets Al Gore for selling Current TV to Al-Jazeera

The conservative TV host questions the sale of Gore's cable news network to the pan-Arab broadcaster.

Savenok/Getty Images)Conservative television host Bill O'Reilly is condemning former U.S. Vice President Al Gore as a "hypocrite," citing a report that Gore wanted to sell Current TV, the cable network Gore helped establish, to Al-Jazeera before higher taxes kicked in on Jan. 1.

O'Reilly, whose top-rated "O'Reilly Factor" airs on Fox News, cited a story in the New York Times that said Gore and his partners were eager to complete the deal before year-end because of the higher tax rate.

That comes just two months after Gore told Reuters he felt citizens should "do their fair share," O'Reilly noted. "I guess that means selling assets at the lower capital gains rate?" he added.

But O'Reilly's not the only one taking aim at Gore for selling to Al-Jazeera, the pan-Arab broadcaster backed by the oil-rich country of Qatar -- which O'Reilly described as an "anti-American network."

Gore, who shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for his fight against climate change, stands to gross about $70 million from the sale, according to Bloomberg. Gore reportedly has a 20% stake in Current TV.

“It’s reeking with irony,” Jeff Sonnenfeld, senior associate dean at the Yale School of Management, tells Bloomberg. “It seems to be at least a paradox in terms of his positions on sustainability and geopolitics.”

The estimated profit is a huge jump from the maximum net worth of $1.7 million reported by Gore when he ran for president in 1999, the article points out.

Al-Jazeera, whose English-language version has struggled to gain a foothold in the U.S., might face an uphill battle to see a turnaround with American audiences.

Immediately after the purchase, Time Warner Cable shut down Current TV's programming, cutting off access to 12 million homes.

But Time Warner appeared to reconsider on Thursday, noting that it would keep "an open mind" as the network develops. Al-Jazeera, which is reportedly paying $500 million for the network, plans to shut down Current's programming and start a new English-language channel via Current's distribution.

THANK YOU PENELOPE 555, YOUR COMMENTS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED AND MUCH NEEDED.   IT IS MOST DISHEARTENING TO CONTINUOUSLY READ THE HATRED  AND INSULTS DIRECTED TOWARD ME AND MY REMARKS BY PEOPLE WHO SEEM BLINDED TO WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON IN THIS COUNTRY, WHEN

IT IS OH  SO OBVIOUS TO ME, AND YET MY CRITICS CONTINUE TO SUPPORT POSITIONS WHICH ARE INHERENTLY CONTRARY TO THEIR BEST SELF- INTERESTS. BUT THAT IS THE STRATEGY OF THE CONTROLLING WEALTHY, TO DIVIDE THE NATION AT ITS FOUNDATION AND TO ENCOURAGE    WARFARE WITHIN THE  99%.  DIVIDE AND CONQUER AS ALWAYS.  BUT YOU AND I MUST PRESS ON AND HOPE  AND WORK FOR THE BEST, OUR GOAL BEING THE ESTABLISHING OF ONE NATION, UNDER RATIONAL, JUST, DEMOCRATIC RULE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE TRULY FOR ALL.  GOD BLESS US EVERYONE.

My name is not Apple, it is Apple 3.14.  I am an all AMerican who is not blinded by the right wing rhetoric spewed by Fox and  the servers of the Plutocracy. They do it for the money. They care about the country about as little as you probably do, judging by your ad hominem remarks to me. Have you noticed that they are always selling something? Books, speaking engagements, news letters.  over priced gold?  I speak the truth as I see it and have learned it. I am the way, the light. the truth. My brain is actually quite large and active, always learning, always searching for what lies beneath the mile thick pile of **** that obscures the reality of AMerican History,  We stole this country and worked the land with slave labor, Nazis were executed for using slave labor.   And now the Koch brothers and Rupert Murdoch and his well paid stooges are trying to  establish a Feudal system where we all are low paid servants to the few wealthy.   If you want more people to pay taxes, then pay them a higher salary. Greed of a few is what is destroying the country, Liberals and ethical unions are what made it strong, fair and balanced, We almost elected a man as President who made millions by buying and bankrupting companies and putting hundreds of people out of work.

Bill O'Reily is the real killer of Dr.Tiller.  Co-conspirator.  May the 99% retake the country. Socialism is the solution.   Ann Coulture is a domestic terrorist in print and speech. SHe should be indicted. Glen Beck is a snake oil salesman,  Rush Limbaugh a self-serving demagogue and hater of women,   Laura Ingram  is a slut. (Just kidding, Ed) She is really a homophobic totalitarian,

The Internet is my street corner, Someone, ANd it is not Communism I strive for, it is democratic scocialism. You critical cretans should turn off Fox now and then and try reading a book, one written by someone other than Beck, O'Reily, or Coulture. Start with the History of Class Struggle. Long live the 99% and may we prosper and conquer.   We need to get more tax dollars out of Limbaugh, Beck, O'Rieily and Colture. Tax the rich.

AWO, if not for those hanging chads, the election couldn't have been stolen. At least we didn't have a close race in the last two elections. President Obama clearly won both the popular vote and the electoral vote and that's comforting to know that there are infomed people in our country.

Soon there will be no Republican party. They fight among themselves and the ones who have any common sense have been outnumbered by the lunatics. A previous comment was correct. History will soon give mention about the demise of the Whigs and Republicans. That will be a good read.

What crap from the master bs artist on tv today! Billy is nothing but sour grapes for his tax hike, which he said would cause him to quit his job if it went through. Well, Bill, are you done packing or do you need some help?

The problem I have with Al Gore and his liberal ilk is that they are so incredibly elitist and arrogant in their hypocricy.  They have a pathological blindness to their own hypicritical behavior and viewpoints.  I am certain that Al Gore believes there is no hypocricy in what he says and does.

A little fact checking - the deal closed on January 2, 2013 according to a Business Week online article.

Therefore, Al Gore and his partners at Current TV have to pay higher taxes.

So much for all the bullxxxx outrage from Bill O'TheClown!  He is an absolute hack as a News Reporter and he is a total slouch as a commentator!  Anyone who listens to him on Fox (Faux) News or Radio is a bigger FOOL!

Sotos, want some MORE facts...

A:  In 2011, Obama presented HIS Budget.  By Rule, this goes to Senate.  Senate voted, 98-0 against.  Senate did NOT create OR attempt to ammend this budget.

B:  In 2011, House created and approved with bipartisan support 2012 budget.  By rule they sent to Senate.  Senate voted it DOWN on party line Vote.

C:  BY RULE, Senate, is suppposed to APPROVE and/or AMMEND one of these budgets.  Harry Reid refused, despite Democrat and Republican opposition to do so.

D:  In 2012, Obama presented his 2013 budget to Senate.  This time, 99-0 against.

E:  In 2012, House created and presented 2013 budget to Senate.  Senate voted it down, on party line vote.

F:  Senate again, under Harry Reid refused to ammend EITHER, or create.

Yet there are IDIOTS that blame Republicans, and there are idiots that blame Obama...It's BOTH Parties, and president...ALL have a piece of blame.

The fact that you are SO far tainted to 1 side that you can't see things is ignorance.  Now, return to your village.

Sotos, too bad your hunt and peck keyboard capacity is holding up your response.  I suggest you spend a night referencing Legislative process prior to response.  While it's highly unlikely you will be MAN enough to own the fact that you are very ignorant of US Legislative process, it will at least remove your ignorance of the facts.

Seriously, this partisan junk from both parties, and clowns like you are as big a problem as the crisis we have, as it removes the capacity to objectively address the issues.

Honestly, under Clinton, with Congressional control as it was, we wouldn't be here, Bush made mistakes, with Congressional approval, and Obama has been given a chance to correct those.  BUT, instead, our LEADERS are ALL pointing fingers.  Guess what happens in a Teacher's classroom when the TEACHER starts pointing fingers when something goes wrong...EVERYONE does it.  Obama needs to quit blaming, and hold Harry Reid AND John Boehner accountable.   He needs to quit saying HE has compromised.  As FACTUALLY, by LEGISLATIVE process that is a LIE.  Read up,  and comprehend.   At best, he could make suggestions, but HOUSE creates, sends to Senate, which must APPROVE or AMMEND.  But WHY bother with knowing facts, when you can be an IDIOT.

Seriously...Under Clinton Congress passed Legislation that had POSITIVE impacts, and some negatives.  The "negatives" are dismissed, as the results happened under Bush, and ALL of the "positives" are given to Clinton.  Despite DIVIDED and/or Repubulican controlled Congress.

Under Bush, early on, good things happened with Divided and/or Republican Congress. Things went sour when Congress was controlled by Democrats.  STILL, Congress passed Legislation, Bush signed it...not a good thing.

NOW, under Obama, for first 2 years, with Democrats in control of Congress, the only legislation that passed Congress was ObamaCare.  NO BALANCED BUDGET.  1 years without one entirely.  Obama said NOTHING, but chastized Republicans.

Then in 2010, Republican take House in biggest Congressional change in 100 years.  NOW, everything shifts from being Bush's fault to THESE House Republicans.

Now follow...Congressional Process that worked under Bush jr, and Clinton...stalled, as House passed 219 Bills, sent them from House to Senate for VOTE since 2010.  NONE of these have been voted on, or reviewed, as Senate Lead, Harry Reid, REFUSES to VOTE.

LOOK, BOTH parties are screwing us, but only an idiot with very low comprehension of Legislative process blames House Republicans, right SoTOS?

SOTOS, in case you haven't got the capacity to READ posts below,

SOTOs, again proving your "brightness"

YES, it did, you idiot. Obama stated taxes weren't going up. That's an ALL inclusive statement, you idiot.

As far as Fiscal Cliff, keep talking, prove you are an idiot. The Fiscal Cliff happened because for 2 months Harry Reid, Democrat refused to VOTE on House approved Bill.

QUIT being such an IDIOT political bias person and recognize facts. Only idiots continue to point at 1 party, and you truly are proving to be one.

Education...Boy you have no clue.

Let's see.

In 1999, Bill Clinton passed Gramm_Leach_Bliley Act of 1999, repealing Glass_Steagall Act of 1933. THIS, reduced Banking regulations. The Bill's namesakes are all Republicans, but Harry Reid, Pelosi, Kennedy and Biden ALL supported it, and Bill Clinton Signed it.

At the same time, Bill CLinton allowed Freddie and Fannie standards to be lowered, with bipartisan support. This led to all the arms/extensions that led to housing crisis, and was the CORE of the fiscal crisis that Bush dealt with.

SO quit being such a partisan idiot and recognize some facts. Call me out when you truly have a freaking clue, but otherwise continue to talk and your village WILL FIND YOU, idiot.

In National Wildlife Preserves/Forests, our Federal Gov't has for years put up signs, warning visitors...

"Do NOT feed the wildlife, as they'll become dependent and unable to survive in the wild."

Yet, the SAME politicians are NOT smart enough to realize the SAME philosophy applies to HUMANS.

Both Republicans and Democrats, House/Senate and President all fail to realize.

They all talked about "fiscal cliff" and it was a LIE. Taxes Still went up on ALL, by at least 2%, depending on your position that's the minimum.  But Obama stated NO increase...he portrayed it that way the entire time.  HE and Republicans and Democrats LIED.

Both parties are corrupt, pathetic scum that are more interested in padding their OWN pockets than helping us.  Senate/Congress and President just approved pay increases for themselves...THIS despite NO budget for 3 straight years, and Senate hasn't itself passed a single budget, or approved/ammended one.

BUT go ahead slam Democrats,. slam Republicans, praise Obama...any dong those without holding the other to the SAME level of accountability is proving to be a blithering idiot.

AH...Obama blames House Republicans for this, but when he was a Senator, it was ALL Bush's fault...despite Democrat's controlling BOTH Senate and House.  Clinton was PRAISED, despite Republicans controlling House and Senate when things were good.  We need LEADERS, from President to Senate to House that aren't pointing fingers and blaming, that are truly willing to address issues.  FACT is OBAMA LIED, Boehner lied, Reid LIED, Cantor LIED, Pelosi LIED...shall we continue?

Yet there are TRUE IDIOTS here that applaud Obama and blame Republicans, and vise-versa...I can call you out, wanna  play?

Yup, the OBAMANIANs strike again.  For all you working folks the more you make the more we take until you have no more.    For the Entitled whom the rules do not apply.   When I see Pelosi, Reed, Franks, Gore, and the so called representatives of the "People" lead once, JUST ONCE, by example and follow the same pathetic nonsense the "People" have to follow, our nation may have a chance.  Now he is up for Secretary of STEAK or State.
