Retailers start to pull some rifles from shelves
Dick's Sporting Goods and Wal-Mart suspend some gun sales after last week's shooting in Connecticut.
While politicians go back and forth about the future of gun control, some retailers are already making a statement and pulling assault weapons from their stores.Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS) has suspended sales of its modern rifles nationwide. It's also taken all of the guns off the shelves at its store near Newtown, Conn., where a 20-year-old gunman opened fire at an elementary school last week, killing 20 children and six educators.
The company said it took those actions out of respect for the victims and their families in this time of national mourning.
The gunman, Adam Lanza, used one of the Bushmaster AR-15 guns in his deadly rampage. A semi-automatic version of the weapon is popular for civilian sporting use, The Dallas Morning News reports. The large retailers selling assault weapons include Dick's, Cabela's (CAB) and Wal-Mart (WMT).
Wal-Mart has stopped showing the Bushmaster Patrolman's Carbine M4A3 rifle on its website as well, according to The Nation. There is no word whether Wal-Mart will stop selling the weapon at its stores, however. But Wal-Mart's site still shows that it's selling other guns at its stores, including the Sig Sauer M400.
Cabela's meanwhile, has stocked up on guns and ammunition heading into the fourth quarter -- largely a bet on surging gun sales after the presidential election. Here's what CEO Thomas Millner said in October, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle:
"At least coming in to the fourth quarter, we’ve taken a pretty aggressive position in inventory commitment to both guns and ammunition. So that’s a starting point. Clearly, if the president’s re-elected, I would expect some surge beyond the current levels, which are really good. And if Gov. Romney is elected ... I still think we’re gonna see gun growth next year. It probably won’t be at the same pace. ... So it’s probably a difference of degrees as we sit here today, but we’re doing a lot of stuff in our stores to make sure we are the easiest, fastest place to shop for your firearms purchases."

the liberals just wont quit! and how many people will lose their jobs if they ban guns? how many people will lose their lives? the colorado shooter chose that theater because it banned movie goers from bringing in weapons, they were like lambs to the slaughter, no one in the theater could defend themselves! i find it interesting that the opinions poles yesterday had banning guns way down on the list as a priority to curb violence, it seems the public gets it, but they are going to be held hostage to the political demands of a few leftist radicals!
The frothing at the mouth anti-gun politicians will cram their laws down our throats just as the did with the health care law. Rights? You have no rights!
Pull down your pants, bend over and hope they use some KY jelly. They are getting ready to stick it to us again, it is going to hurt like a Mother F'er, and there is nothing we can do about it. Because men with brass balls long since given way to wimps like us.
Please sir, may I have another!
Guns are not the problem; neither is alcohol, cars, drugs. Liberals like to lay blame to material objects. They are afraid of the truth. When Andrew Kehoe used dynamite to blow up that school in Michigan in 1927, people didn’t blame the dynamite. They blamed Andrew Kehoe. Today’s media reverses it; they twist the story, word to sound like that poor man was a victim. The gun made him do it.
What if he walked into a kindergarten classroom with a baseball bat? Would the death toll be any less? A baseball bat is a lot quieter than a gun and doesn’t need reloading. No matter what material object was used to cause this tragedy, it was a dysfunctional human that caused it. If it’s not a gun it will be something else.
“Wake up America”
Take away a nations ability to defend themselves and you will wind up with a communist nation where the people are totally under government control. Look at what is taking place in seria right now and what was happening in Iran , uganda, mexico, Libya and countless other countries. If you think 20 helpless children was bad think of all the children murdered by the germans in wwll that never had a chance in life and then think of what could happen to your children and you if some bunch of fanatics were able to take over this nation with the sole purpose of killing every american over here. Think back to 9/11 and and all those lost lives in those planes and towers. Yea keep depending on the government to protect you and yours when a foreign country has invaded our soil if you want to take such a chance and just see how long your families will last Lets just turn in our arms and send a message to the world to come and take what you want. How much dumber can we become in this nation? By the way if our politicians are really concerned about children why are they allowing so many to be killed through abortions each year? I say it`s for a vote.
