Retailers start to pull some rifles from shelves

Dick's Sporting Goods and Wal-Mart suspend some gun sales after last week's shooting in Connecticut.

Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS) has suspended sales of its modern rifles nationwide. It's also taken all of the guns off the shelves at its store near Newtown, Conn., where a 20-year-old gunman opened fire at an elementary school last week, killing 20 children and six educators.

The company said it took those actions out of respect for the victims and their families in this time of national mourning.

The gunman, Adam Lanza, used one of the Bushmaster AR-15 guns in his deadly rampage. A semi-automatic version of the weapon is popular for civilian sporting use, The Dallas Morning News reports. The large retailers selling assault weapons include Dick's, Cabela's (CAB) and Wal-Mart (WMT).

Wal-Mart has stopped showing the Bushmaster Patrolman's Carbine M4A3 rifle on its website as well, according to The Nation. There is no word whether Wal-Mart will stop selling the weapon at its stores, however. But Wal-Mart's site still shows that it's selling other guns at its stores, including the Sig Sauer M400.

Cabela's meanwhile, has stocked up on guns and ammunition heading into the fourth quarter -- largely a bet on surging gun sales after the presidential election. Here's what CEO Thomas Millner said in October, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle:

"At least coming in to the fourth quarter, we’ve taken a pretty aggressive position in inventory commitment to both guns and ammunition. So that’s a starting point. Clearly, if the president’s re-elected, I would expect some surge beyond the current levels, which are really good. And if Gov. Romney is elected ... I still think we’re gonna see gun growth next year. It probably won’t be at the same pace. ... So it’s probably a difference of degrees as we sit here today, but we’re doing a lot of stuff in our stores to make sure we are the easiest, fastest place to shop for your firearms purchases."

All those dead set on gun control. You will have a fight. At a time when we should come together to work on the actual problem...the people. But if you want it...come get it.

If this is how they feel, then I will do business elsewhere.

Nancy Lanza bought guns for safety. She got four shots in the head with her own weapon.

Maybe people will still murder with knives but it will diffentely be harder without a Bushmaster with a thirty round clip.

Have you ever tried to convince a drunk that she (or he) didn't need another drink?  Have you ever tried to convice a fool that guns do not kill people, people kill people?  Have you ever tried to stop a train going downhill when the brakes failed?  Have you ever heard of a nation that got so caught up in what a charasmatic leader was saying that in its drunken stupor it failed to see where the leader was taking them?  If you are a young liberal then you probably have no idea what i am talking about.  I'm sure you will have some cute comeback that makes about as much sense as what is going on now with the fervor to stop the sale of guns.  The mentally deranged, evil people with the will and mentality to kill innocent people were not hatched overnight.  They were patiently cultivated by greed and other ills in our society.  Now we are going to take more rights away from law abiding citizens?  Why am I not surprised.  Whoever keeps flagging this, you can take a running start and kiss my *****

Again people are blaming the gun for killing people, Remember the gun only works if a human is pulling the trigger, so leave my guns alone, If you remove guns from the people who own them legally the people who own the guns that are not legally registered are going to take advantage of the situation, because no one will be able defend them self’s, and further more if someone is sick in the head and is looking to murder  as many people have pointed out they don’t need a gun, the terrorist that that caused 911 did not use guns, Answer this how many people died last year from  drunk drivers or people talking on their cell phone or text messaging we haven’t taken away alcohol or cell phones yet.

This process is nothing more than punishment to the nation for the actions of a few!!!!!!

Armed all the teaches and principals and it will not happen again.

Shall a gunman come in and shot some one he or she will find an overwhelming response from the school staff.

It does not take any brains to do this.

Only an idiot will try this again as he or she can expect an overwhelming response by the staff.

The president is wrong on his actions...

We need to remove incompetent politicians who want to make themselves caring and good by taking advantage of this tragedy....

This country has gone overboard on defending the "rights" of the mentally ill. People like the ones who commit mass murder need help. I am not sure that they should have any rights when they are a danger to themselves and others.

Countless times mass murderers have gained access to firearms that should have been locked in a SAFE by the firearm owners.  I'm not talking about gun cases with key locks and glass on the doors either, but SAFES that can't be opened with anything but a blowtorch or dynamite.   Someone {responsible adults only}  has to know the combination to gain access to its contents.

They should take our money away because we can buy guns & ammo with that!!!!!!! & the only thing a gun is used for is killing & everyone that owns a gun must be a killer!!!! All I can say is that it  is sad to hear about children being killed but guns just project a piece of lead it doesn't choose the target sick people will always find a way to kill.

OH & on the Dick's pulling guns, way to go Jack **** like stores that carry guns are bad or something, all I can say is don't be Dick!!!!!!!!!!!

Get them while you can. The liberals in the left wing are drooling after the disaster in Newtown, Ct.
The day after the shootings the left wingers in Congress were yelling "gun control" before they had any facts.
It will be interesting on Friday 12-21-12 to listen to the NRA statement on this gun control attack.

Cool two more stores I will not shop at now, although Wal-mart was already on that list.

Them pulling guns  will do nothing to help with the issue. But then again, my bet is whatever Uncle Joe B comes up with will do nothing to help with the issue.  But hey "WE Did soemthing"

Our Government gives 2,000 "major" guns to known criminals. But that was for a good cause , killing everday citizens and border patrol agents.
