Retailers start to pull some rifles from shelves
Dick's Sporting Goods and Wal-Mart suspend some gun sales after last week's shooting in Connecticut.
While politicians go back and forth about the future of gun control, some retailers are already making a statement and pulling assault weapons from their stores.Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS) has suspended sales of its modern rifles nationwide. It's also taken all of the guns off the shelves at its store near Newtown, Conn., where a 20-year-old gunman opened fire at an elementary school last week, killing 20 children and six educators.
The company said it took those actions out of respect for the victims and their families in this time of national mourning.
The gunman, Adam Lanza, used one of the Bushmaster AR-15 guns in his deadly rampage. A semi-automatic version of the weapon is popular for civilian sporting use, The Dallas Morning News reports. The large retailers selling assault weapons include Dick's, Cabela's (CAB) and Wal-Mart (WMT).
Wal-Mart has stopped showing the Bushmaster Patrolman's Carbine M4A3 rifle on its website as well, according to The Nation. There is no word whether Wal-Mart will stop selling the weapon at its stores, however. But Wal-Mart's site still shows that it's selling other guns at its stores, including the Sig Sauer M400.
Cabela's meanwhile, has stocked up on guns and ammunition heading into the fourth quarter -- largely a bet on surging gun sales after the presidential election. Here's what CEO Thomas Millner said in October, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle:
"At least coming in to the fourth quarter, we’ve taken a pretty aggressive position in inventory commitment to both guns and ammunition. So that’s a starting point. Clearly, if the president’s re-elected, I would expect some surge beyond the current levels, which are really good. And if Gov. Romney is elected ... I still think we’re gonna see gun growth next year. It probably won’t be at the same pace. ... So it’s probably a difference of degrees as we sit here today, but we’re doing a lot of stuff in our stores to make sure we are the easiest, fastest place to shop for your firearms purchases."

Cool two more stores I will not shop at now, although Wal-mart was already on that list.
Them pulling guns will do nothing to help with the issue. But then again, my bet is whatever Uncle Joe B comes up with will do nothing to help with the issue. But hey "WE Did soemthing"
Our Government gives 2,000 "major" guns to known criminals. But that was for a good cause , killing everday citizens and border patrol agents.
Blaming guns for the tragedy in Connecticut is like blaming Ford, GM, and Chrysler for all drunk driving accidents. The Democrats were waiting for the incident where they could launch their gun control plan against their long time foe, the NRA and this incidednt gave them that platform. This is political grandstanding at its best taking advantage of greiving families to push through legislation aimed at crippling our second amendment rights.
Never mind that the shooyer was taking mind altering depression medication that may have had side effects with suicidal tendencies. We cannot allow ourselves to be blinded by the facts can we? . It is this ready, fire, aim approach that the liberals are willing to take and proves that they are more interested in pushing an agenda than finding the truth.
God forbid we launch an investigation against the one group who may have contributed to our election campaign now can we? The NRA makes such a better target. We owe it to the families to investigate the dispensing of depression medication which may have been the real root cause of Mr. Lanza going off the deep end. The public shoud not be allowed to bethe crash test dummies for pharmeceutial companies - that is the job of the FDA. And if a medication has side effects that are worse than the symptoms it is trying to cure, then maybe we better find another alternative.
The legislators are easily swayed by emotion and feed off of the press if it suits their purpose - never mind if all of the facts are not in. These are the same political Lemmings that are leading us to the fiscal cliff and we are to trust them to arrive at a logical solution to either problem?
It won't make a difference if you get rid of all the guns, like they saying goes and it's truer then true, PEOPLE KILL GUNS DON'T. So now get knives, or just beat someone to death with your bare hands, It won't change a THING. They're still there and you can on any corner in any major city and buy better GUNS and ones you can't get legally from a store. I do feel for these people, it is wrong and there are laws to deal with such.
But the day they take my guns is the day I JOIN A REVOLUTION IN WHAT WAS THE UNITED STATES.
Let me know if anybody has a huge sle on AR15's ! I need a few more for my collection and i also need a couple dozen 40 round Mags. Thats how i protect my property and Family!
And also you people that don't belong to the NRA should think about joining! Thats who fights our fights in Zombie land .Washington,D.C
Have You Ever Seen How Fast Someone Can Shoot a Recurve Bow & Arrow??? Look on you tube for fast archery shooting or fast bow & arrow shooting and watch some videos and you will see that a bow & arrow is just as dangerous as a gun!!!! I have seen 3 arrows in 1.5 seconds. There is a video of fast archery shooting and it is a girl from russia moving side to side and walking you should watch!!! If she had body armor and her bow & arrow and i had a gun with no body armor I would be very scared!!!! The weapon does not matter it is the person with the weapon that matters. Improvised Explosive Devices are more deadly, cheaper to make the buying a gun, and are not that hard to make. I do hate when people use guns against other people, but i also do not like child molesters and people committing rape, what should we do with all of the people that do those crimes destroy them like some people would like to do with all of the guns??????
Gee, Lets make swimming, swimming pools, beaches, oh yeah, and boats all illegal. Just think of all the lives that would be saved from the people that would have drowned. England- guns illegal; violent crime up 80% in 5 years. Australia, same thing. Such idiotic knee jerk reactions . Guns are not the problem- its the people pulling the triggers. Make guns illegal and only the criminals will have them.
Drrrrrrrr.....
Getting hung up on gun laws is completely inappropriate. Even if we passed a law to make all 300,000,000 guns already out there illegal, the only people who would give theirs up are law abiding citizens - no f'n way the crazy people and criminals are giving up theirs.
So why not try to come up with something that will actually acomplish the goal, which is to prevent people from killing children (and teachers) at schools.
Both sides of this gun law argument make me feel ashamed to be part of the human race.
