Retailers start to pull some rifles from shelves

Dick's Sporting Goods and Wal-Mart suspend some gun sales after last week's shooting in Connecticut.

Dick's Sporting Goods (DKS) has suspended sales of its modern rifles nationwide. It's also taken all of the guns off the shelves at its store near Newtown, Conn., where a 20-year-old gunman opened fire at an elementary school last week, killing 20 children and six educators.

The company said it took those actions out of respect for the victims and their families in this time of national mourning.

The gunman, Adam Lanza, used one of the Bushmaster AR-15 guns in his deadly rampage. A semi-automatic version of the weapon is popular for civilian sporting use, The Dallas Morning News reports. The large retailers selling assault weapons include Dick's, Cabela's (CAB) and Wal-Mart (WMT).

Wal-Mart has stopped showing the Bushmaster Patrolman's Carbine M4A3 rifle on its website as well, according to The Nation. There is no word whether Wal-Mart will stop selling the weapon at its stores, however. But Wal-Mart's site still shows that it's selling other guns at its stores, including the Sig Sauer M400.

Cabela's meanwhile, has stocked up on guns and ammunition heading into the fourth quarter -- largely a bet on surging gun sales after the presidential election. Here's what CEO Thomas Millner said in October, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle:

"At least coming in to the fourth quarter, we’ve taken a pretty aggressive position in inventory commitment to both guns and ammunition. So that’s a starting point. Clearly, if the president’s re-elected, I would expect some surge beyond the current levels, which are really good. And if Gov. Romney is elected ... I still think we’re gonna see gun growth next year. It probably won’t be at the same pace. ... So it’s probably a difference of degrees as we sit here today, but we’re doing a lot of stuff in our stores to make sure we are the easiest, fastest place to shop for your firearms purchases."

The only people who follow gun control are the law abiding citizens who evidently were foolish enough to re-elect the worst President we have had in decades.  No one can stop a deranged young man who was sick enough to kill his own mother.  In China where guns are not favored they had massive student stabbing in the last few years ( 3/10 8 students murdered in Nanping,  4/10  16 students and a teacher knifed in Taixing,  ,  5/10  a  man used a meat cleaver to kill 7  kids and 2 adults and injure 11 in  Hanzhong,  8/10  a man in Zibo killed 3 children and their teacher and inured 17 more). Perhaps the President would like to outlaw Wusthof and Ginsu knives????? The ridiculous proposal for more gun control as a way of stopping a psycho is like outlawing cars because  of the drunk driving deaths in the US. Do we outlaw fertilizer because of the Timothy McVeighs of the world?????   To the extent that they are proposing an increase in access to mental health facilities and in my personal opinion,  removing the stigma of having your child seen by a mental health professional we can actually try to attack the problem. having a requirement for an armed security at every school so that if a nut job does break into a school with a weapon the teachers and kids will have a chance at being protected is rationale.     The rest is a political knee jerk reaction by politicians who want to be re-elected at the expense of illegally effecting  the constitutional rights of American citizens.

So why is it after this shooting all its about is GUN BANS, don't hear anything about how we can make schools safer.

 

But for the gun bans it will not do anything "IF" it happens, I only have two statements if it does.

 

1) We need to ban vehicles as-well do to all the drunk driver. ( same concept).

 

2) This will be controversial but o-well, All the people in prison for gun crimes need to be released its not there fault its the guns. That's how i translate all of this.

you can ban all the gun's you want,people are still going to kill people.the decline in moral's have hit bottom in this country.I say its time to put prayer and God back in the class room's and the ten commandments back on the court house square.exactly what are you Obamatard's going to ban when guns are gone and some wacko put's a bomb on a school bus? are you going to scream for the banning of school buses?

How many children has that FOOL killed in Iraq? Afgan. Mexico. GUNS DON"T KILL, PEOPLE KILL, AND DON"T NEED A GUN TO DO IT. Ever see what a car or truck can do to a crowd, hitting 50-60 MPH? Gun powder in a  galvanized  pipe?  Someone  with a  razor sharp  machete?  How about a bow with a broad-head arrow,  quiet  silent. These are just a few of the everyday events in many countries.  I have fought in 6 bloody conflicts,  and  have seen people oppressed by their government.  I will not be a slave to the Government, and that is what they want. What if it had been an IDE? Or someone who walked in a class and blew his self up?, Wake up and look at what Obama is trying to do, AND STILL HAS NOT PROVED HE IS A CITIZEN OF THE US. His father was not, nor his mother.  If these corps want to coward before the government let  em  BUT NEVER SURRENDER YOUR GUNS  " Washington  didn't use his freedom of speech to defeat the British, He shot them!"

I will NEVER shop at Dick's again...............​........  It is not the guns that are killing people; it is the F-ing morons behind the trigger and the dumb-a$$es in DC making the stupid policies........  Dick's will not see a dollar from me or my family and friends.

I do not like AR style rifles or even AK style rifles I also do not want them to be taken off the shelves or regulated. If anything I think that ever us citizen should be allowed to carry a handgun if the wish, providing they are not nuts and have the training to operate the gun safely. I wonder what would happen to all of these school shootings if the faculty had fire arms. Now a lot of you may be thinking that the students would take the gun and use it but there are ways to prevent that using modern electronics much like a micro switch if it is not a closed circuit it does not work. I carry when I can and when I can't such as the mall of America I avoid it going there. My small town bank allows people to bring in guns as long as you are not a criminal going to rob them.

You care more about the types of guns taken off the shelves than the safety of your own children?!! Most of you Extremists probably own them because you are A**holes with a lot of enemies. I own my guns for sport and protection. No need for an assault weapon. Keep this up and the door will be wide open for Hilary Clinton in 2016. Think about it.

Why is it, we blame drunks for killing people with cars ? If one was to look at guns the same, clearly the trigger is pulled a person by choice. We haven't banned cars yet. The simple reason is that cars are useful to the vast majority of us. Guns are not a part of our way of life like they used to be. Simple tools of survival or sport as the case may be. Even a tool to protect yourself and your property. They are efficient tools for criminals and psychopaths . Just like cars there are far fewer drunks on the road than responsible drivers. So, I'll keep my car. I'll also keep my gun . If a psychotic criminal wants to harm me , they'll have to get past my gun. Don't blame cars because there're drunks on the road . Don't blame guns for troubled peoples poor decisions.

not one armed secuirty guard in the elementary schools, so where is our tax money really going one might ask, people who want to go on a rampage will obtain the guns through illegal means and the public who would want weapons to protect themselves would be the ones screwed in this process. One good example is mexico where weapons are banned but somehow it seems that the cartel possesses the most modern weapons. The tax money should be used to pay more trained armed security guards instead of dimwitted rent-a-cops equpped with flashlights as their primary weapon. Gun control will not stop the chaos it will only add more to it once criminals know that civilians have no longer access to weapons, burglaries and robberies will be on the rise.

I have not set foot in a Wal-Mart in 8 years, and my visit 8 years ago was to return a gift someone purchased there. I will add Dick's to my list of boycott stores. The good news is I was able to pick up several more of these "assault rifles" yesterday at a local gun shop. Can't wait for you gun grabbing zealots to ban them so I can quadruple my money :)

 

Oh, by the way, in the 45 minutes I was at the gun shop they sold 14 "assault rifles" These things are moving like hotcakes :)
