Is Al Gore an oil hypocrite?
The former vice president's new book criticizes the TV news business for getting hijacked by oil and gas companies. And just whom did he sell his television network to?
Al Gore might have wanted to consider the ironic timing of releasing his new book, "The Future," just a few weeks after selling his television network to Al-Jazeera.
The pan-Arab broadcaster is backed by Qatar, a member of OPEC that owes its wealth to its oil and gas reserves.
In Gore's new book, which will be released Tuesday, he complains that oil, coal and gas companies are twisting television news. The former vice president's publisher, Random House, is asking consumers to shell out $30 for the 592-page book.
According to an excerpt published by The New York Times, Gore writes that "virtually every news and political commentary program on television is sponsored in part by oil, coal and gas companies -- not just during campaign seasons, but all the time, year in and year out -- with messages designed to soothe and reassure the audience that everything is fine, the global environment is not threatened, and the carbon companies are working diligently to further develop renewable energy sources."
Given the timing of his sale to Al-Jazeera, Gore's message might strike some Americans as hard to swallow.
After all, by some estimates, Gore made a $100 million profit from his sale of Current TV, making him possibly worth more than former presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
Gore has a few words to add about Al-Jazeera, which bought Current TV for an estimated $500 million: He calls the Arab broadcaster "feisty and relatively independent," according to the review from the Times' Michiko Kakutani.
It's likely that his sale to Al-Jazeera will come up in several television interviews scheduled this week, notes TVNewser.com. The former vice president will appear on NBC's "Today" and "Late Show with David Letterman" on Tuesday and on Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show" on Wednesday.
Current TV staff might consider tuning in to hear Gore's thoughts on the sale, given that he refused to appear in front of his own employees to explain the sale, according to the New York Post.
More on moneyNOW
Gore is the ultimate hypocrite as other comments describe. Please, Al, stop it. The inconvenient truth is that Gore is a sell out to the petro interests.
I am an environmentalist and understand global warming. I also think it reasonable that well to do people try to lead by personal example and lifestyle choices. And selling his network to an oil company for $100 milllion is the ultimate joke.
Just one more thing to blame that imbecile George W. Bush and the Repukelican Party for!
DIE REPUKELICANS, DIE!
IT WAS ALL BUSH'S FAULT, thanks for reminding me..But I'm not fond of most Politicians anyway.
Clinton made two attempts to get Osama bin Laden,(that I'm aware of) 1 time in a North African Nation and then once in either Iraq or Afghanistan?...The African Intel was not credible or worthy..??
Billy Bob...Threw several Cruise missles into the Mid East and "missed him" (OBL) by about 15-20 min.
OBL had been warned and left the location, only minutes before.
BTW....Our current President Barrack H. Obama, did order pulling the trigger on him(OBL).
Al Gore, "didn't invent the internet"...DON'T BE STUPID...
But he did a lot, to promote it....Crossing this Country, into Rural Areas and into School Systems.
We all should appreciate that initiative...Along with the competition & service that ensued.
He has also done much to "promote awareness" of Global Warming (climate crisis or change).
A person would have to be "quite ignorant" to not realize we have Worldwide Problems.
So we should all appreciate that initiative also...Unless you are BRAINDEAD.
And now he is using some of that money to promote more Awareness of Oil/Gas and Coal Companies contributions of the "negative sort" to our's and the World's Enviroment...
We should appreciate that too....I also find it somewhat "ironic."
For you that "know little" about the Al Jazeera...World News organization:
They have reporting locations Worldwide...
Actually for a newscaster, they show little "biased reporting" compared to other Foreign News..
We can actually get better "truthful accounts" about American and other Foreign Activities.
And yes they are the "Broadcaster" to the Muslim World...But are quite open about it...?
But you just keep watching FOX, CNBC,NBC,CBS and ABC, along with listening to right and left-wing Radio...To get all the truthful facts.....PBS and NPR are a somewhat different, sometimes.?
I love it, the Repukes are out in FULL FORCE, blasting someone that was"screwed" by their Party..
Yeah "hanging chads",idiot voters(or ignorant) a Corrupted Governor and Secretary of State;
Polling places that changed venues or had transportation blocked(hi-ways) for Blacks and Hispanics to get to in order to Vote....Extended voting times to allow Military to vote from off-shore, and allow all their votes to count( they usually vote Repub) indefinite time..
And then a "slanted SCOTUS" appoints the "other guy"..I consider them corrupted at that point..?
Oh, yeah the "other guy" an AWOL,Draft dodger, doofus, that use to do drugs and was a cheerleader in College...Had his Daddy pulling strings all his life; He Also was a failed business man in most endeavors that he attempted with other's monies, left them holding the bag...Oh BTW...He was also a brother to that corrupted Governor in Florida and very good friends with the S of S, who was a ladder climber in the GOP.....Florida should be deeply ashamed of themselves, their votes don't even account for anything anymore...Who cares ?? Chicago's got nothing on them..!!
Or yeah, thet "other guy" was G.W. Bush, we don't want to remember, but we remember Gore.?
Sure the "Bush Regime" tighter the ticks, with the Saudi Families,money,money,money..
Halliburton right along with them, their old CEO, was a guy named Dick (shoot'em in the face) Cheney....God, "no-one remembers?"
BTW....It was a "disgruntled Saudi " named, Bin Laden THAT BLEW UP AMERICA....
And then the Bush Clan, made sure all the "family" got safely out of the States...
And then this same "other guy" started TWO (2) unfounded, unfunded Wars...
Along with presiding, over as President; The Worst Recession (bordering on Depression) that this Country has ever seen since the 1930s....But the Rich and Elite friends have suffered little, in Recovery...And the Saudis and OPEC, are selling us $100 a bbl. OIL.
Yeah...You all remember Al Gore, but damn few want to discuss G.W. Bush; the "worst goddamn"
President we ever had...
Americans need to wake up.The market is up 85% with Obama. He`s got rid of Bin Laden and
dozens of other terrorists. Not to mention the effectiveness of the droon missels. It`s great
to have a strong President after wimps like Bush who said "I don`t know or care where
Bin Ladin is".Thank God we have a real man in the WH.Our mostly right wing media doesn`t
give Obama a fair shake afer being lap dogs for Bush.
I'm sure it is all Bush's fault. Gore should sue Bush for causing him to end up a hypocrite. That is the new "American Way"........... "it's never (insert liberal politicians name)'s fault"
