Is Al Gore an oil hypocrite?

The former vice president's new book criticizes the TV news business for getting hijacked by oil and gas companies. And just whom did he sell his television network to?

Al Gore in December 2011 (MCMULLAN CO/SIPA/Rex Features)Al Gore might have wanted to consider the ironic timing of releasing his new book, "The Future," just a few weeks after selling his television network to Al-Jazeera.

The pan-Arab broadcaster is backed by Qatar, a member of OPEC that owes its wealth to its oil and gas reserves.

In Gore's new book, which will be released Tuesday, he complains that oil, coal and gas companies are twisting television news. The former vice president's publisher, Random House, is asking consumers to shell out $30 for the 592-page book.

According to an excerpt published by The New York Times, Gore writes that "virtually every news and political commentary program on television is sponsored in part by oil, coal and gas companies -- not just during campaign seasons, but all the time, year in and year out -- with messages designed to soothe and reassure the audience that everything is fine, the global environment is not threatened, and the carbon companies are working diligently to further develop renewable energy sources."

Given the timing of his sale to Al-Jazeera, Gore's message might strike some Americans as hard to swallow.

After all, by some estimates, Gore made a $100 million profit from his sale of Current TV, making him possibly worth more than former presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

Gore has a few words to add about Al-Jazeera, which bought Current TV for an estimated $500 million: He calls the Arab broadcaster "feisty and relatively independent," according to the review from the Times' Michiko Kakutani

It's likely that his sale to Al-Jazeera will come up in several television interviews scheduled this week, notes TVNewser.com. The former vice president will appear on NBC's "Today" and "Late Show with David Letterman" on Tuesday and on Jon Stewart's "The Daily Show" on Wednesday.

Current TV staff might consider tuning in to hear Gore's thoughts on the sale, given that he refused to appear in front of his own employees to explain the sale, according to the New York Post.

He is the poster child for influence peddling and opportunist predatory political favortism resulting in easily acquired wealth. With people like him around, it is hard to worry too much about Wall Street money grubbers.

The absolute worst hypocrite this nation has endured for the last one hundred years at least. Leading the preaching for his own global warming lies, while scamming the taxpayers . His personal global footprint is more than thousands of us ll put together. Why doesn't the news media shut up and let the creep fade away?

The sad thing is he could have been our President.  Boy did we dodge a bullet, and no FL hanging chads did not do him in.  He lost in the County and the state he (says he grew up in), Tennessee.  He really grew up in Washington, D C, so he really did not have a chance to be anything but a FRAUD.  The people of my home state, TENNESSEE knew him for the fraud he is.

An example of a person who would sell his mother and father down the road for personal gain and then bad mouth everyone else.  CA - you deserve this piece of CRAP in your state.  A gift from Tennessee to CA.  I know who the winner is!!!

Al Gore exemplifies the hypocrisy of progressives in general.  Their currency is envy, their output is manipulation.

Let's see. Al gets great fame for a partial truth movie. Makes tons of money.
Al sells Current TV and makes tons of money from Oil.
Al flies around in a private jets leaving a huge carbon foot print. It is alright for him to ruin the environment because he has a better reason than everyone else that has a private jet.
Al has a company in the wings that will help the government with the regulation of Cap and Trade. He will make tons of money off of that when that starts.
The best thing Al Gore has is an episode on South Park created after him, Man-Bear-Pig. 1/2 man, 1/2 bear, 1/2 pig.

Al is just a great guy. Just ask him.

He is a huge hypocrite who tells others what they should do and how they should live but puts himself and his living style above "normal" people.

Gore is the worst thing to happen to the cause of reducing human-caused global warming, as he spouts the good words of one who cares and then hypocritically lives the excessive and bloated lifestyle of all wealthy people, those who exploit natural resources much in excess of what a hundred regular families use. As a result, he gives his detractors great reason to oppose him and also the good cause of reducing global warming. Gore harms much more than helps that good cause as a result of his incredibly obvious hypocrisy..

He is the worst kind of person in conscience, an abject hypocrite who cannot see thus won't admit the immense damage he does when he spouts his help-the-world rhetoric that severely contradicts his wasteful and excessive lifestyle.

Al Gore? Is he the one that lives a mansion and flies around on his own jet that burns thousands of gallons of refined jet fuel? He flies all over to tell us that we need to live in smaller homes, drive tiny cars and change our industries to enormously expensive renuable energy or we will all die from global warming? Should we be surprised that he has now sold his television network for $500 million to an oil producing country. Now he want's us to buy a book bashing television networks for accepting oil company money. He must be the greatest salesman of all time!

When I heard the details about this move by Al Gore I was appalled. I really fear he has sold us out and betrayed his country. I never trusted him and now know his motivation has all along been guided by greed nothing else.I was reading news about Islam the other day and the radical parties who are enemies of the US use the media link he sold to Aljazere directly to voice their radical Islamic opinions. How scary is this for recruiting in our own back yard.
