Celebrating Passover costs more this year
Prices are up by as much as 10%, while sales may top 2012's total of $2.5 billion. And more non-Jewish consumers are buying.
Matzo, the unleavened bread that Jews have eaten on Passover for generations, is getting more expensive along with other Passover foods.According to Menachem Lubinsky, a Kosher food marketing consultant who edits Kosher Today, prices for Passover foods are up 5% to 10% this year.
Sales of Kosher for Passover goods, which also includes non-religious goods that are permitted on the holiday such as Coca-Cola (KO) along with traditional fare including macaroons, were about $2.5 billion in 2012. He expects spending to be "at least that if not more" for this year. Passover starts Monday night and ends April 2.
Jews, of course, are the largest buyers of these products. According to Lubinksy, about 78% of American Jews say they observe Passover to some extent. They'll have more goods to choose from because about 500 new products for the holiday are being introduced this year.
However, Passover goods are also gaining popularity among non-Jews, some of whom are holding Seders because it was the Last Supper of Jesus Christ. Other consumers concerned about gluten intake are buying the products because many Passover foods are gluten-free.
Food companies "are trying to make whatever they can make for the holiday," said Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Lubinksky in an interview. "They can switch ingredients here and there."
U.S. matzo (also spelled matza and matzah) sales are expected to hit about $86 million this year, about the same as last year. "Manufacturers have raised their prices," said Lubinksky, adding that all consumers may not see higher prices because some retailers continue to deeply discount matzo prices when consumers make a minimum purchase of other goods.
About 35% of the matzo sold in the U.S. comes from Israel, up from about 10% about five years ago. About 80% of the unleavened bread sold in the U.S. is made by machine, and the remainder is made by hand. The latter type of matzo -- also called shmurah -- is shaped like a circle and is favored by ultra-orthodox Jews. It's also is the fastest-growing part of the matzo market, according to Lubinsky.
The biggest matzo maker is Manishewitz, based in Newark, N.J. Years ago, it ran afoul of man-made law when it pleaded guilty to federal price-fixing charges in 1991. It has since rebounded, and it remains the top seller of other Passover products as well as matzo.

YEHOVAH heard their cries and sent a DELIVERER in the form of MOSES, a Hebrew/Israelite, who was himself 'delivered' from death, to be brought up in the House of Pharoah. YEHOVAH, after 9 attempts [by sending plagues to Egypt] to get the attention of the Pharoah and the Egyptian people, the last plague would be the final blow to the destruction of the ECONOMY AND STRENGTH of Egypt.
ANYONE who was a FIRSTBORN MALE, who was not COVERED BY THE BLOOD, (visible at the sides and top of the DOORPOST) would have been killed. The Angel/Messenger could only SEE the blood over the top and sides of the doorpost, and most likely the blood that was in a container below the THRESHHOLD of the doorway. The blood was the SIGN or COVENANT of PROTECTION.

Before doing so, they kill a lamb or goat an drain it's blood into a container, under the door's THRESHHOLD. The Passover is a MOED (Appointed Time) with the People of Israel. Who are the People/Children of Israel? They are those who keep the Torah, known as the first five book of the Scriptures (Bible). It is the Constitution given to the people, through Mose, who are in covenant with Him and who are REPRESENTING Him) to the NATIONS.
The person Sally Field portrayed, would NEVER have stepped over the THRESHHOLD to the door of her husband's relatives, had she known their true INTENTIONS.
When you come into covenant with YEHOVAH, you simply make TESHUVAH, which is turning your life around and beginning anew. How? By reading the Constitution of the People/Children of Israel and following it. Whether you are a returning Israelite 'gentile' (absorbed into the nations) or a pagan gentile (like Ruth), you are now an ISRAELITE.
Those who have accepted YESHUA as their DELIVERER, [by representing the Passover Lamb who is their PROTECTION, as well as HIGH PRIEST (Order of Melech Tzedek/Melchisidek) during YOM KIPPUR, and have come into COVENANT by taking on the TORAH as your CONTITUTION, YOU ARE NOW ISRAELITES. You once were 'lost' but now have been FOUND!!
It is not about becoming JEWISH or complying with JUDAISM. It is not about following man-made doctrines that CORRUPT AND DEVILE the SCRIPTURES, rather, it is about returning to the FAITH OF OUR FATHERS...that FAITH is TORAH.

Why are almost all Easter candy/pastries and Christmas cakes/candies - HOLY days that are despised by these people - have symbols on them verifying that a Rabbi was PAID to supervisor their production and are deemed Kosher or another lesser status?
And forgetting the alleged exodus and slavery, why is the killing of INNOCENT children celebrated with the holiday of Passover?
Is this why the murdering of INNOCENT Palestinians/Arabs and their Children is tolerated & justified by the Zionists and Special Interest Groups of Israel - or is it because they are not part the self described "Chosen People" - and are deemed just "dirty Arabs" and are included with the lowly Goyim.
With prices going up, hopefully the ignorance will go down! Passover, yet another fiction (just like Easter...) – has never happened. Apparently, it was a Persian garrison stationed in Egypt, practicing a polytheistic Judaism that gave rise to modern Judaism and establishment of ancient Israel.
