I was always questioned and teased about not buying a larger house or taking longer and more expensive vacations. I was once told by a real estate that I could afford a mortgage nearly twice what I wanted to spend. That was in 1995 and had to sell in 2008. Just missed getting slammed by the downturn.

I was forced to retire and we are collecting on S.S. and withdrawing from our 401-K's. Money is no problem.

You have to sacrifice a little, to have more later.

These days I try not to spend, am paying down debt (the dentist) and working hard to generate extra income.  As my mama told me, there is nothing like having money behind you.  Believe me, she was right!

The absolute number one sign you are in debt denial is if you bought into all the lies, deciet and flowery words and still voted for Obama after four years of being slapped in the face by his administration.

For all you libs that are personally in denial of your debt load you might want to look at how Barry and his band of idiots is driving OUR DEBT LOAD to unsustainable levels.  Get it?  Barry's projections have us adding another $4 Trillion to our National Debt and you fools are as blind to that as you are your own finances.  Unbelievable!

living better is not living larger but as long as all of the people in this country can't live without the 30k cars and newest fad you have no one to blame but yourself. you want a better financial picture in the country than stop buying all the dam **** you do not need... idiots

I am not trying to be insensitive, but we can't blame our indebtedness on anyone but ourselves...not the dems. or repubs.  It wouldn't matter what political party is in, we would spend like crazy anyway.  We need to learn self discipline when spending more than we have.  What's wrong with waiting?   Playing the blame game may give us small comfort for OUR OWN DOING and financial blunders but we have ourselves to blame. Put the blame where it should be.........on ourselves and start be more responisble.

the lowest unemployment and highest income and high life living of politicans made me sick to my stomach! it's like disneyland! family

and friends getting high paying jobs! payoffs! high living on wine food cars clothes! and obama raised middle class taxes???? that 2% was

a hell of a lot of money for most of us who work! all you lazy asses living on welfare and foodstamps maybe you aren't so stupid! why fing

40 weeks to get a job! I just love this economy. So may great opportunites for all those over educated gen Yers. You'd think you'd be the hot stuff and in high demand for employment. Guess not.

Just a pointer about the unemployment part... In most states, if you quit, you will not be eligible for unemployment. Unemployment Insurance/Benefits is for those that are let go for no fault of their own, or if they quit due to just cause (like harassment, unfair treatment). Quitting  because you want is not considered a just cause, hence, you will not get unemployment.

Growing up  during the Eisenhower years, we were paying off WWII, and carrying a bigger debt load,as a % of Gross Domestic Product, but we got it paid. Difference? The wealthy were paying a higher % of their income to the IRS than they do now! Peace and prosperity under IKE!

The reason they are all in denial is because they bought into the banks and mortgage company's lies about how buying a house is a great investment, a piece of the American Dream, etc. Maybe 50 years ago it was, but more like the American Nightmare now.

Denial- We all know the government debt must be addressed and helping only those that actually need the help should be part of that solution. The world does need ditch diggers so get out and hustle for that job so you can step up. That would be good for the country.  Get off the dole.

The writer of this article is apparently only talking to middle class and lower people, though it wasn't mentioned. The wealthy have been doing better every year for the past 30 years, at the expense of the rest of the population! That's what the election was about!
