Please explain about how"the rich get everything handed to them", If that's the case , we should all be rich. We just need to bump up welfare a little bit

True, our own country is selling is out with the downfall of the finance industry and the jobs taken overseas.

But, Americans need to stop whining and making excuses and get off their lazy butts and go to school.

We are screwing ourselves over with the lack of morals and party life instead of taking education seriously. Anyone can get a decent education and go from no where to somewhere if they want to. If they want to.

American kids think the thug life is cool. All about gang life or having fun with drugs, alcohol and sex. Dont complain that your poor unless your willing to study and work hard to make it.

It doesnt matter who is president. The descions you make in your life matter.

People from other countries dirt poor and become doctors and nurses in America and end up making more money that a lot of Americans. Why? Because they took the time to go to school and they wanted it bad enough.

I've worked in fast food since I was 16, am now 27, and I do just fine. Well, that's not entirely correct, I also work another job as a secretary/clerk at the city police department and have been doing so for almost 6 years. POINT IS, I started as a crew member at good ol Mickey D's and was promoted to manager by the time I was 18. I worked hard and I worked a lot and I did whatever needed done without hesitation or complaint because that was my job. I built a reputation for myself for being a hard worker and because of that, I gained employment at the city on a trial basis. I continue to work part time as a manager at McDonald's because my pay is good, it's stressful but fun and I'm good at my job there. If you work hard, you can improve your pay in fast food; there are promotions available if you want to succeed. I believe there is an unfair stigma attached to service work, but the truth is I provide for my two children with what I do, and I have never been on welfare of any kind. McDonald's offers medical/dental/vision insurance (it's expensive, but it's there), and this year I am looking forward to FINALLY finishing my college education. I'm not rich obviously, but I'm not struggling too bad either. This line of work, just like almost anything else in life, is what you make of it :)

Decisions, decisions.  Do we keep our representative form of government along with capitalism and allow the rich to keep getting richer, the poor to get whatever, the middle class to shoulder the burden, and face those inevitable consequences?  Or do we use that representative government to "tone down" the capitalists, share the wealth, and risk a social democracy, at least until the current economic crisis has abated?

I am alive today because of a heart surgeon who put in a pig valve and did a bypass. He is

worth every penny he earns. If somebody wants more money than what they make flipping

burgers then go to school and qualify for a bigger pay check.

You have people exceeding a million a year and many times more. We have lost our ability to see value in humans. we make fun of people in low jobs, we are de-evolving

Most of the world's population live in a society where a very privileged few live like kings, and the rest, billions of them, live in a squalor that most Americans cannot even conceive of.  Unless we want to follow this global trend, we must face certain facts such as the fact that most Americans do not have, and will not obtain, a college degree, for whatever reason.  For the last half of the 20th century, these people could find good jobs in manufacturing, government, and other industries.  Our leaders have exported these jobs over the last several years, while allowing illegal labor to move in, taking jobs on the lower end.  This process has greatly benefited the wealthy, at the cost of the middle class, and it is still going on.  Contact your congressmen and senators and let them know that it must stop.  They won't care, as they ARE the wealthy, but you will feel better about it.

Well, you can't say Obama did nothing to close the gap between the rich and poor.  Now, we are all poor.

Lets see, the top jobs are medical doctors.  Hopefully, everyone can see what's wrong with that.  A more enlightening article would compare the pay of jobs with similar educational requirements.  Another good concept would be to compare numbers of jobs, by annual salary, over the last ten or twenty years in America.  Perhaps a comparison by Presidential term would also be valuable.  On the other hand, that kind of data would probably anger the peasants.  Especially those that used to have good jobs.

Are you kidding? If you think minimum wage is $18,760, your sadly mistaken.

I have never earned that much! A single, divorced, working mother, raising 2 children w/out child support, I never made more then $16,000 a year and that was working an 8/5 and a 4/5. The most I ever made was $7 an hour and that was temp. Most low income jobs will only pay around $6. an hour or less. Employers know the tricks to pay as little as possible. About 5 years ago I worked for a retirement home and was paid only $5. an hour. The only way to reduce the countries debt and tax's is to stop paying people to have babies. I myself was the youngest of 9 in a welfare family. My mother, like so many others, had babies to increase there welfare checks. I seen what goes on inside. All anyone has to do is get pregnant and there in for a free ride, then they just keep having babies to increase there income from welfare. It is a way of life for generations of families. I know welfare was taken over by SSI, but things are still the same." In my opinion" if a woman continues having children while on assistance, they should be removed from the program! Stop paying people to have babies! The nations debt is largely based on this problem. Fight to stop this injustice on our tax's! Stop welfare families!

AMERICA'S  BIGGEST ECONOMIC DISASTER: GREED AT THE TOP!!!  Any employee at any level of pay who commits their life to a company to provide a service/need in our society should be paid a wage that allows them to have a clean place to live, food, utilities, health care etc... the arrogance at the top is a moral disaster to hard working people who hold jobs THAT ARE NEEDED TO MAKE THE WHOLE SYSTEM WORK!   EXAMPLE: The next time a surgeon needs to use the restroom -- A CLEAN  RESTROOM -  he is able to do so!!!  If being a cleaning person is considered a low paying dumba$$ position that does not pay enough to meets your living needs and a bit more for enjoyment, then lets see how well the surgeon can hold his pi$$(nasty bathrooms) at work until he gets home and uses one of his 5 bathrooms!!! DO YOU GET THE PICTURE!!! Oh, by the way, take your own garbage to the dump in your own car!!!  ??? a garbage man is a loser ??? HA, HIS POSITION SHOULD BE RESPECTED IN THIS COUNTRY!!!

Girls don't marry an older guy. It isn't worth it! When Men get older their sex drives goes down the drain. He can't sustain it as long as he used to. Viagra and drugs can help but if he smokes that may not be of much help.  Also the chance of him becoming ill goes up as well. He won't have the same energy level as you and him breaking a bone or two could be life altering.  Also if he gets laid off from his job it is harder for him to get another one because companies discriminate against older workers. Then you have to deal with him feeling washed up at the same time you have a house full of kids to raise. Then there is the problem of he thinks he knows best because he is older even though you are right.. I can say all these things because I have live it.  I wished I had stuck to men my own age. Now that I am older he is dead and the kids have been with a Dad much sooner in life when they really could have used a father. .All this hogwash about him being more stable is is just that hogwash. Don't sell your youth and beauty for money and security. it just isn't worth it  in the long run.

Lived It!!!!

For all of these people whining about the minimum wage, no one forced you to slack off in life and not strive to get a better education. I worked lots of suck-a** minimum wage jobs while paying for my own college education. Now, I earn a good paycheck, because I worked hard and applied myself.

People need to stop whining an accept responsibility for putting themselves in their situations. About the only exceptions are those unfortunate folks who have worked hard and got screwed by bad leadership in their companies. Everyone one else needs to get over the "poor me" crap, stop expecting to get paid ridiculous wages for job that require no skills, and do something to make yourself better and more marketable.

Well, yesterdays paper had a story about Chipotle Restaurants. They have an excellent promote from within program. You start on the line making the burritos, and it's all upward from there depending on your talents and desire to succeed. Check it out, and no, I don't represent the company.

I put a link to the company website in there and the system wouldn't take it, so I see how the spammers get through by not putting their links in standard form.
