Baltimore City and St. Louis are the only cities in the U.S. that do not belong to a county. How fitting is it that the pics on this story is of row houses in Baltimore. I can bet it is the westside at that.

I get so mad when I hear ppl talking about what the Native Americans get for free, such as license plates for their cars/trucks. They should! No matter what your heritage is, they are the only true Americans! Then the ships arrived from across the Atlantic, and basically said, "we're here now, find another place to live, cause this is ours"! Of course the Nat. Amer. fought for their land, but that made them look like savages. In my opinion, the 'German Americans', Italian American, and all others who decided to make America home, they should have thanked the Indians who welcomed them, fed them, and taught them how to work the soil to survive a new country. But NOOOOO, we took all their knowledge, their land, and even some of their woman, and told them to move on and then the war began. And I don't blame the Indians for any of it. We are living on their land, and all I have to say is THANK YOU!!

Uh, MSN thinks I have nothing better to do than slideshow through FIFTY TWO slides?  Why not just show the ENTIRE story on one page?  It's gotten so bad that you can't read many stories without a stupid slideshow RUINING it.  Personally, when I see a slideshow pop up instead of a story, I KILL the news story.  PERIOD.  Like the Dad and his son mad at socks that fall down, I'm "Sick of it."  Join the Barking Mad Murdock Slideshow Liberation Army!!!

No wonder Apache co. in Arizona. The white man took all their good land from them and the blacks think they had it bad. Gov. gave them rock piles to live on and expected them to grow crops. The Am. Indians were here first and foremost.

SOME PEOPE IN THIS COUNTRY FORGOT WHAT THE United states is all about. Corporations are not hurting!! Ever heard of the word MONOPOLY? We are experiencing what GREED can do to a country and WORLD. There is a good damn reason why society has checks and balances. Im a believer that if any country gives you opportunity then there is an obligation to that society. We have somehow lost that ideology. And for those who dont agree, there is a certain price to have access to 310 million people and it belongs to the people of this country to set the TERMS for them to operate here but now BIG BIZ has used their billions not paid in wages to buy our politicians to work against us because they will never make enough money due to GREED. They seem to have some of you really duped to give up your country and turn on your own people. These corporations have BILLIONS in pocket change to buy off our democracy and that in itself should be ringing a lot of alarms!!! Oh yeah, they are broke right? The one thing we have today is the STUPIDEST bunch of idiots in history called citicens. Big Biz has never been more profitable in history!! and now money isnty enough so they may as well own 310 million people's futures and livelyhoods! Wake up you freaks or your children have a dismal life ahead of them.,.this is only the tip of the iceberg on issues...we are being sold out and many of you cant even see this..your paying big biz to even operate..they dont use their own money you clowns, they use ours and now hold our livelyhoods hostage while they control prices and price things to where you have to use credit(debt) on everything..they spend a lot of money to know your habits..we are losing this country and I feel sorry for our kids future because we are so damn stupid today..thats this generations legacy!! Im so sick to my stomach from hearing ignorant fools who turn on what the USA stands for..it sure wasnt created for those who choose to supress us and take us over..I thought thatwas ehy this country was created?Of For And By the people..remember?  Now our new enemy has become the one thing we count on for our livelyhoods and politicians that they purchase so you work for next to nothing..,Mexico and china can give low wages because their governments do nothing for them and their communities are shandy towns..we have a different way of life in the USA ..did some of your forget this? wake up america...your getting dumb beyond belief. And maybe i made some sperlling errors..so what..im fuming mad at people inthis country that are very ignorant!!!1

Well, "poverty" has a fine line, apparently.  It depends on where you live, where you work, what you pay for living, if you have to support a boy/girl friend, pets, etc...

Some people are single, with one job, pay the majority of the bills with significant other, and pay more taxes than the so called "Middle Class."

Or we are just limping along, hoping things will be ok...

Limited job opportunities my ****.  Why would it be different for a Native American or another person? Job limits are job limits.
It says it is poor because of the large population of Natives.
WTF??
It is either saying Native Americans have no job opportunities,
OR
the county is poor because it is full of Natives, and the county has no jobs...
This sounds well... bias

$40,000.00 might be poverty level if you have a large family and are taking care of incapacitated parents or a sick child.  It depends on the personal circumstances.   The Job creators are the ones suffering now and if the situation is not turned around the whole economy of the US will go under.  By Job creators I mean the "consumer".  The decisions big business makes are just uneducated.  Take the company that makes washer- dryers, located in Decatur Il. Closed it plant and shipped manufacturing to Mexico, where labor costs were severely below what workers would need to live on in the US.   Now, who has the money to buy their product?  US population can't , No jobs.  Mexico workers can't , low wages.   I love the quote by Henry Ford. " Make a good product and pay wages high enough so the workers can buy the product".  The Job creators are not the Businesses, or the Chamber of Commerce, or Wall St.  It is the consumer.  Every time you buy something you create a job position.

I have a question. Who are the corporations? The share holders not some cloud you refer to as corporations. If you have 401k, an Ira a pension plan or anynumber of other investment tools you are a share holder and you own a part of the corporations thus you are part of this "1%". So if you do own shares stop complaining. THIS COUNTRY OFFERES ANYONE WITH THE GUTS TO ATTEMPT BEING YOUR OWN BOSS THE OPPORTUNITY TO SUCCEED WILDLY OR TO FAIL AS WELL. Most do not have the guts to try because they are afraid to fail. This is what is wrong with America. Not that someone owes you antything!

Nye County, NV is not 109,781 square miles.  That's the size of  the state itself.

Lets not point fingers at our presidents, it takes a combined effort of screwing up from our government for the deficit we are experiencing.
I like to ask a few questions to those against Obama or those against Bush:
Since when did the President control all the financing of the US?
Do you think the Congressional House or the Senate don't make financial changes?
Do you feel that Governors do nothing but twiddle their thumbs?
The answers (in case you are to blinmded by hate for either president) is no they do not have total financial control, yes the Congress and the Senate make changes to the budget, and no Governors set their states budgets unfortunately almost all of our Governors are forced to use their funded money or they lose it.
Lets all hope this lack luster government doesn't lead us to another period of stagflation.

At present, unless you are willing to work outside the US, have a MS or PhD in petrochemical engineering or one of the computer sciences, those college degrees are worthless. The reality is that corporations are hoarding their money by refusing to hire and create jobs. Why would they if not hiring and creating jobs still gets them plenty of taxpayer subsidies?

The whiner generation is suffering from Middle Aged Angst because for the first time in their pathetic lives they are eating the reality of having to watch how they spend their money. Boo hoo. Life's tough all over.

rfal...Sure...everyone is going to get a job with a PhD, right? BS. I've turned away more PhDs at my office because companies are NOT hiring. What is it about NOT HIRING you don't get? There are jobs out there just not at the hotcha salaries you guys think you'll continue to demand. YOu can't live on $40K a year and own a Beamer and a gas guzzling SUV but you'll be the first ones to insist you have ALL the control of every decision...even the one that comes with a pink slip?

They should just say, Bachelor's level income vs Master's level income as a litmus for "poverty."
