THESE are the brilliant tips that I read this article for? My Mom, the Champion of Cheapness, taught me these things as a matter of common sense. Have Americans become so detached from the value of a dollar that we need these brilliant rudimentary insights, or is this just another worthless waste of time that taught us nothing? I hope it's the latter, but I suspect it could be the former, judging by the way I see some people spend themselves into debt.

no s**t, Sherlock.  Unless you are upper middle class or above, these are a standard way of life.

What a joke. Anyone really wanting to save money is going to be worried about the cost of airfare, cell service etc? These are things most people give up first if having a dificult time.

This article is way too generalized to be helpful to anyone. Here are five practical, i.e. useful, tips that I employ to save money.  First, make your own coffee in the morning and stop buying it on the road.  Second, pack a lunch. You will save money and you will probably be healthier.  Third, get a library card and get DVDs and books for free.  Fourth, if you like going to the movies, bring your own snacks into the movie theater and go to matinee shows. Finally, go to garage and estate sales.  I was surprised how much useful stuff I was able to purchase for a fraction of what I'd pay for it new at a store.  And I don't mean crap that I just bought to be buying something.  Everything from tools and kitchen implements to furniture and camping equipment.  Saving money is a war that has to be fought on many fronts, and constantly.  Your fellow man will be happy to enrich themselves at your expense if you allow them to do so.  So wise up.

Clipping coupons and looking at store ads for sales.  What a novel idea!  Why didn't I think of that?

Someone actually got PAID for writing this drivel???

Other tips: go to the public library for books instead of buying them, or start an exchange with family & friends. See AAA or AARP about a refresher class in driving; it may be good for a discount on your auto insurance. Take a hard look at your computer, cable, & cell phone & cut down on what you don't really need.

The price this article gives on gas is a complete joke.  California hasn't paid that little for gas since who knows when.  Having made purchases of different items when I've been in other states, there should be a separate section for California which outcharges and outspends every other state on all topics.

More useless "tips". I bet the writer has an Ivy League degree!  I could write a better article on money saving tips. Don't spend what you do not have. Stay away from the media, which entices poor slobs to buy unnecessary items. You are making the 1% richer by the minute. Buy what is necessary, and stop eating out. Use eating out as a once a week or monthe treat, not a daily occurance. Get rid of premium cable channels. All they talk about is drivel, anyway. Cook nutritious meals at home. In the warm weather, eat in your backyard or on your deck. You will feel like a million bucks! Take your family to a park. You sure pay enough property taxes to maintain them! Enjoy nature. Go to a matinee, don't go to 3-D movies. Bring a snack in your purse for the kids. Oh, and say NO occassionally to your kids! Want some more????

Lets talk about real saving....I have no cable, this cut about 80 or more dollars. I have no cell phone. I have no land line, another savings of 50 or more. I do have a roku box from Wal-Mart for tv. It cost 100.00 but I get net flix for 8 bucks a month. I have no choice to have internet for my pc, my roku,  and for my magic jack. I am saving a bundle every year.

Wait, what's a coupon?  How long have these things been around?  Where do I find them?

Food prices too high?  Grow a garden.

Wanna save money?  Dump the paid TV, run with less expensive alternatives.  AKA Netflix, Hulu, etc..

How about dump the high priced phone line?  Ever hear of ooma?

Dump the high price wireless bill!  Go check out republicwireless.com.  Smart phone plans for $20.

How about free 4G wireless service?  There's a thing called Freedompop.com.

Wow!  Some articles just don't know where to go to save $$$'s.

Install an alarm system to get a discount on insurance????  Do you realize that the discount for the alarm is minimal compared to what you have to pay for monthly monitoring fees?  The discount doesn't even come close to saving you any money.

Interesting. Nothing about how to prioritize bills and choose between what bill to pay that week or whether to spend the money on food, instead.

And what is up with AT&T always changing its due dates, making it harder for its hard pressed customers to pay bills on time? And, is the law that allows the bills to be mailed on the date due and be on time still operating?

What about useful stuff like that? I'm also interested in articles about how to live half a year literally living on 'wish' money...which I actually call the money I've magically pulled out of my bottom...because the Breadwinner didn't get a raise enough to cover rising expenses for the last three years, and, this year, no raise at all.

I have a novel idea. How about business pays the worker a decent wage so that we can all afford business's unrelenting price increases.
