1) Deport illegal immigrants. Like the family in this story. Shame on you NBC for aiding and abetting criminals.

2) Quit having so many children. It is irresponsible to have litters of children you can't support.

3) Cut off monetary aid to 3rd world countries who hate our guts.

4) Reduce congressional salries by at least 1/2.

I know I will probably get pounced on for this comment, but who cares.... I had to go on food stamps after my unemployment benefits ran out. I am told by employers that I am either overqualified or underqualified. I decided to finally go back and finish college last fall. The local DHS office advised me that my food stamps will end at the end of this month because I will start the fall semester (senior year-yay.) It really chaps my a$$ that I will get no help while finishing a Biology major (taking the max of 18 hours this fall), but if I decided to stay at home and sit on my a$$ I would keep getting food stamps. That is messed up! The lazy are rewarded in this country. It is disgusting.

Today the news in the Coachella Valley was all about the doctors, nurses and tons of free medical supplies went to Nigragia because they are so poor and medical attention is needed. Yeah, well what about the starving Americans, disabled vets or the seniors unable to purchase medication because of their limited income? I will never understand our government and world. It absolutely drives me nuts. Generosity and charity starts here on American soil.

Wake up America, its the few who take advantage of the system who ruin it for the rest. I live in a resort town in WI, during the summer you would be amazed at the sights we see. People driving Cadillac's or other expensive SUV's, sporting diamond rings, and wearing name brand clothes, then asking if the convenience store they're standing in takes the "Quest card". I'm sorry if you're on any type of state sponsored assistance you shouldn't be buying any thing at a convenience store, much less cigarettes, or alcohol, not to mention a convenience store in a resort town where you've brought your 8 kids for vacation.

You need a job.....Have any of you read the want ads in the papers? it's loaded with ads begging for help! If these people are in such direr straights what difference does it make what kind of job they have. Swallow your pride, at this point the only thing that matters is your family.

One of the biggest problems within our economy is not so much the financial assistance programs as designed ... it is the lack of monitoring it and where the money goes. It still baffeles me that we can have two illegal immigrants living here .. unmarried .. having three children whw are receiving welfare benefits and probably other benefits on the taxes we pay. I am disgusted by it. No wonder there isn't enough available for those that worked for it and deserve it .. we are to busy giving it away to all that don't really deserve it.

If you think there's no jobs out there, I know of 536 jobs that are available that pay well and require no experience or accountability for poor job performance.........100 Senate seats & 435 Congress seats and 1 President position.....Vote all of them out and apply for their jobs....Great pay w/ a lifetime of benefits.....Based on what I've seen the past 50 yrs, you probably better qualified than 99% of those already in those positions.......

I can't believe the story of the kid who graduated from the private school and liberal arts college. Let me help him out, Stop going to private schools and getting degrees that are not in demand. Go to a state school for half of the cost. Here is one for you, go see a Military recruiter and sign up for 4 years under the college loan repayment program. You would have a job, they would pay your loans and they will feed and house you.

As for the veteran, the VA system could use some work. It was taking 3 to 4 months to get your claim started as long as it was processed before you got out. This was 2-3 years ago. It is now almost a year. I have many friends in this situation. It is sad and I feel for the guy.

The problem with food stamps is that we give $200 per month to 25yr old punks who can work any place and we only give sickly elderly ladies $50 per month.

They can efficiently cut Steven Johnson's army pay immediately, but then take over a year to process his disability pay? Why not just hire him and others in similar situations to process disability cases - win win.

Nobody thinks there shouldn't be a food assistance program in our country. However, it should be properly monitored and those that don't qualify need to be removed from the program. Pretty simple....

It tears my heart out to have to be on food stamps. We get a meager $98.00 a month, since my wife became disabled and I am one of many thousands of construction works who have worked hard our entire life, having broken my back and lost 75% of the use of both my legs, I have to decide do I want one good meal a day for myself, wife and grand son or be able to afford medication and medicine, and live in constant pain. Now because of the economy there is no work to be had. Our monthly income comes from my wife's disability at $898.00 a month we also support our 2 year old grandson while mom and dad both struggle to make ends meet and find a place to live for a decent price. Come on America stop turning your noses up at the poor, help out if you can. All we want is a chance to earn a decent pay check. put a nice meal on the table and pay our bills. While we continue to struggle and keep getting poorer the rich keep getting richer. How about some help not charity. We constantly go without eating just so our grandson can eat decently. DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS LIKE TO BE STARVING MR. PRESIDENT COME ON GET THIS COUNTRY GOING, STOP PAY OUR CONGRESS MEN AND OTHERS THEIR HIGH WAGES AND START HELPING THOSE WHO NEED IT.

umm, college boy needs to get a job at McDonalds until he can land his dream job.....that way he gets paid and gets food cheap...I cleaned houses for six months out of college........that wasn't beneath me........getting free help when I was young, able bodied, and only taking care of myself was.

I live in a small town that has been hit hard by the economy. Yet I was still able to land a job in1 day. I don't buy that the economy makes it impossible to find a job. Sorry. Also we are going broke partly because Mexicans cross the border illegally then have their children here and the kids are declared citizens. Then we have to pay for the food for the kids to stay and health insurance. Even though the parents never paid into the system. Things must change. If we don't help ourselves first and get ourselves straighten out we will never be in a good position again to help anyone else.

one in seven receiving food stamps in the U.S. This is really sad. Its no wonder why the 45 million people living in the U.S. are living in poverty.

1. Food stamps, free housing, free medical, and cash assistance for million illegal immigrants living in the U.S. from Mexico

2. Giving away billions of the tax payers money to third world nations who hate our guts.

3. Borrowing billions from China, Germany, and Japan to pay of the debt caused by our crooked/corrupt politicians.

And we can't even take care of our own people here in the good ol U.S.A.

Maybe, just maybe we would have the ability to help those in need of food stamps if we stopped the abusive distribution of them to a group to parasites in our welfare system who sell them, buy junk food with them, have 4-5 kids which they cant afford, etc. Our country is being overriden by a eventual fatal disease, one which I am tired of supporting. Recently was told by a teacher that a student who couldnt pass his end of grade test said he didnt care because his grandmother was already teaching him how to sell food stamps. This is what our society is encouraging, uneducated, lazy people who have been taught how to abuse a system, while those in need go unhelped.

Open your eyes. Illegal immigrants buy Illegal social security cards to get a drivers license and work. Then when they pass the driving test they ask them would you like to register to vote at the same time. Now they broke the law once and corrupt the voting system by saying yes. They mooch off the American system and corrupt the democracy. The liberals are too liberal and will push the system deeper in the hole funding cheats. No ID to vote but will Obama care require ID for health care? How did we make it before food stamps & welfare. They were not there in my youth and have weaken the strong resolve of the American People to succeed in life without government help.

For once in the overly-dramatic news media, the term "crisis" is actually an appropriate term for the situation this country is in. Anyone who is in need of food, unemployment benefits, or other benefits that are available, especially if they are in that situation due to no fault of their own or are a veteran, just give it to them. It's not like this country hasn't supported plent of lazy, free loading deadbeats over the years. It's about time that people who actually deserve it benefitted from social programs and unemployment insurance.
