Did Mitt Romney just blow the election?

Comments caught on video reveal that the GOP candidate thinks half of Americans are losers. This is an utter disaster for his campaign.

You can mark my prediction now: A secret recording from a closed-door Mitt Romney fundraiser, released Monday by David Corn at Mother Jones, has killed Mitt Romney's campaign for president.

On the tape, Romney explains that his electoral strategy involves writing off nearly half the country as unmoveable Obama voters. As Romney explains, 47 percent of Americans "believe that they are victims." He laments: "I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

So what's the upshot? "My job is not to worry about those people," he says. He also notes, describing President Obama's base, "These are people who pay no income tax. Forty-seven percent of Americans pay no income tax."

This is an utter disaster for Romney.

Romney already has trouble relating to the public and convincing people he cares about them. Now, he's been caught on video saying that nearly half the country consists of hopeless losers.

Romney has been vigorously denying President Obama's claims that his tax plan would raise taxes on the middle class. Now, he's been caught on video suggesting that low- and middle-income Americans are undertaxed.

That one is especially problematic, given the speculation about what's on his unreleased pre-2010 tax returns.

Corn tells us there are more embarrassing moments on segments of the video he hasn't released yet. Romney jokes that he'd be more likely to win the election if he were Hispanic. He makes some awkward comments about whether he was born with a "silver spoon" in his mouth.

But those are survivable. The really disastrous thing is the clip about "victims," and the combination of contempt and pity that Romney shows for anyone who isn't going to vote for him.

Romney is the most opaque presidential nominee since Nixon, and people have been reduced to guessing what his true feelings are. This video provides an answer: He feels that you're a loser. It's not an answer that wins elections.

If this is the best the Democrats can do, I will gladly accept the worst the Republicans have to offer!

No conspiracy here, political candidates need to be careful what they say anywhere there is another person present.  This has gone on forever, it just so happens we live in a world where there are no secrets if you are technically inclined.

Oh, BTW, did you hear what Obama said about the 1%? Gotcha!

I don't like that MSN seems to be taking a polical stand here. I don't think Romney used the word loser in his secret taping.  Isn't it against the law to tape someone without their knowledge.   If your one of the losers who don't pay income tax & property tax then vote for OBAMA.

Did he actually use the word "Losers" or is that just a way to spin facts into something horrible.

And Remember folks, 47% pay no tax, but it's the other 53% that aren't "paying their fair share" hahahahhahahahahahahahh

I think this is a democratic led conspiracy. Nobody like Romney could possibly ever think he would be elected president. The democrats are obviously paying this man to take the fall. Well played Obama, well played.

Anyone ever seen the South Park episode where it turns out Obama, his fake wife (actually his partner in crime) Michelle, and McCain are all rigging the election to steal jewels?

My neighbor lost his job 4 years ago due to the construction downturn. He was living off of unemployment for a couple years and during that time he started to drink heavy and become depressed.  His wife left him and things got even worse. He would drink beer all day and smoke cigarettes. His home and yard deteriorated. He became ill and ended up in the hospital. His received a mortgage bailout and is now on permanent disability all paid for by the taxpayer. He is now back to drinking, smoking and provides zero contribution to society. He is a perfect example of what Romney is talking about. Obama's programs have greatly contributed to ruining this mans life.  Obama does these things just to get these people to vote for him and in the process their lives are destroyed with no hope for the future. This is our leader. Wow.

WOW, another totally biased article; interpreting a recording out of context making chicken poop out of chicken soup.  Republican or Democrat, it is all the same; the politicians, the media and many voters have lost track that this is about us.  We need the best solutions to the challenges before us, the best people to lead us - ALL of us will have to feel some pain, have some skin in the game, or we will follow the European model which is a model for failure.

I hate Romney, I really do and for various reasons, but, hes right about one thing, most Americans are on welfare and welfare recips are LOSERS!!!!!!!!! Its time to end this welfare plan for the blacks, spanish and white trash, end it once and for all. People, all people will and should be working for money. Money should not be handed out to anyone at all especially these people from other countries that come here to have their welfare kids and collect welfare for the rest of thier lives. Disgusting!!

exlax ETCH-A-SKETCH lost the election a long, long time ago! He just keeps burning down his bridges one after another, so he can't get back!
The 99% American People, don't like or trust him, his corruption shows right through his face, HE CAN'T HIDE IT! His STUPIDITY is ONLY EXCEEDED by his IGNORANCE!
Jobs were & still are not the campaign! What IS the campaign is the UNREST of the UNEQUAL DISTRIBUTION of the wealth! 23% of the wealth for the 99% American People and 77% of the wealth to the ONE-PERCENTERS & their VACATIONING CEO'S living a LIFE OF LUXURY while the 99% have been driven into ENSLAVEMENT in THEIR OWN COUNTRY!
This is the REAL ISSUE, anything else said, is pure BULL$HIT!! Nothing more, nothing less!
It's time for BIG CHANGE, and that time is NOW! Not later, but RIGHT NOW!

Analysis: the Media is Beyond Partisan in their Support for Obama, but at this stage, after a long history of bias before this, have made themselves almost irrelevant.

Romney will probably win (60/40 odds), but whether he does or not, the media will only slightly affect the outcome.  All their credibility is gone, especially after the past 3 weeks, and the string of imaginary gaffes they constructed for Romney.

This is the number one election issue. Too many people for too long have depended on the government to provide their wants and needs. It is time for Americans to get back to work and be self sufficient. When the Pilgrims came over or the wagons were rolling out West they were comprised of people willing to work hard and struggle to start a new life, and the only hand outs were by others near them that expected them to strive to make their life better. The government is a necessary evil that should be constricted and made accountable to only a few of our needs including defense and education. Beyond that they need to stay out of our way. REDUCE taxes and limit government excess before it  becomes too late to change the socialism course that we are on.

Who is mother jones taping this for? The other party to air and by the way is not against the law to tape someone without them knowing, and just play parts of the taping,  Just more dirty tricks .  Can't there ever be an election that is not dirty, so sick of this.  Romney was just saying what a lot of us think. I'm tired of working hard while other people sit on the couch and get us to pay for what they have.  Maybe its time they gave back. Work in the towns, city clean up the parks, streets, paint or something work for what we are giving you tax free. The 47% are probably not even registered to vote, Obama was to make more jobs, haven't seen that.  Donald Trump's little spot on the news this morning was correct, your fired!

Democrats are out of touch with responsible hard working Americans that dont want to be government dependent. They cozy up to the 47% that pay nothing and promise more free stuff. The top 25% of the taxpayers carry 87% of the load. Yet its the 47% that pay no income taxes and the 28% that pay very little that think they are the ones pulling their weight. Liberal math is whacky. Get out and pull for a change.
