The vast majority of small start up businesses don't make it, pie-in-the-sky ideas. DO NOT risk your retirement $$ or home equity, at 60+ you will never in your lifetime be able to earn it again. Whoever wrote this article obviously has not been there with the red tape and costs of doing business, let alone be able to pay yourself a decent wage. I did it for 14 years with staff of 7 or 8 but eventually sold at a small loss and went to work in corporate America. And no, you don't work at your convenience, you work when customers need you or else they won't need you...... There's part time stuff out there especially seasonal retail since part time does not have to pay you benefits, you'll get low wage or commission sales and dreadful hours. If you just need something to do volunteer at the soup kitchen or food bank or a nursing home. The only people who are bored in this life are people who are boring.

It is probably good to stay active and keep healthy.  I see many that volunteer at church, organizations.  But if you require additional income, hopefully you can assist your income with something you enjoy, but in these times you may need to look for anything you can.  Life is never easy, enjoy moments when you can.

Surprised to see nothing in health care. Isn't that what we old folks need most.

I know a lot of physical therapy ops take on part time volunteers and assistants. Pay is lousy, but, the hours are very flexible.
