People who their wealth have a right to keep the fruits of their labor. All taxes are a perversion to human nature, to extort from those who earned to give it to those who did not earn it. However, redistribution of wealth will get you the votes, every time!

Notice that the vast majority of the best states are Republican-controlled!  Taxes are low and cost of living in most of these states is also very low.  Then the liberals scream that these states are "takers" because so many seniors decide to live there and collect their social security, medicare, etc.!  Plus, there is a high cost of federal highway funding per citizen because of the lack of population.  Once again the liberals call these states "takers" because they have a higher per capita cost for their highways!  The liberals laugh and snicker at the "idiots" who live in these "pits" so far away from their "socialist paradises"!  Just do us a favor and stay FAR away!

It's simple if you have to work you think taxes are too high.  If you don't work and receive a government check, you think they are too low.   If you are a liberal movie star who makes millions of dollars acting like someone interesting, you think you are above it and don't care because everything is comped.  If your are a liberal billionaire it doesn't matter because you will pay anything to assuage your conscious and you are pursuing public accolades and money no longer matters.

I am a one of those that has to work.   I gladly pay my fair share, but I resent paying someone else's share.  Where is my break?

You know , with global climate change Alaska might be a pretty good option . Of course my plan at least till I can't drive anymore is to live in a motorhome never staying anywhere more than a week and always going somewhere different .

I'm going to disagree with the Florida Property tax in the article. I have been in the process of purchasing a house in Florida and I was told that there is no State Income Tax. Yes, but when I checked out the property tax on a home, it was more than twice what I pay in my State ! You have a $182,400 house taxed $1773 in your example. This isn't the average tax. On the internet a house with a tax assessment value of $185,812 is taxed $4639 ! There are plenty of examples like this. Not sure how they figure things but, unless you get some kind of homestead exemption or something---you will pay high property taxes.

Not sure where the info on Wyoming's property tax being low came from, but the state published a report last week that our property tax is the 16th highest in the U.S.

Vermont Taxes you to death...my 4 adult college educated children do not live in Vermont...no jobs, taxes, housing expense...my 10 college educated siblings do not live in the Vermont any  more.   I will be leaving at retirement...and taking all my retirement out of the state.   There will only trees and scum on social services in Vermont in a few years.   Who wants to see that kind of pot smoking un-employed animals?

Georgia may be a "tax haven" for seniors, but for an average working person, the taxes are awful.  Property taxes are high.  Tax rates (registration fees, etc) on cars are among the worst in the country.  Plus you have a state income tax.  Thought about retiring there a few years ago and when I saw all of the taxes and "fees", I changed my mind.

Tax friendly is not the highest on my list for happiness, so my theory is live in a place you love and you will find that overall the taxes seem to average out....even if you happen to love the queer state.

I own property in Alaska.  The article didn't mention that there are boroughs (counties) that also do not have any property taxes.

You don't need to read this article to retire happy and content. Just avoid any state ran by the progressive liberal democrats.

Another fact they don't report is the drug abuse rate in the low tax states.  Wyoming and Alaska have very high rates of meth use.

Cody Wyoming use to be a really nice place years back; but with the overnight actors and the low cost of land prices are buying up everything in sight. Then the signs go up no Trespassing, No Hunting. Lefties love this and cry look what I have done to preserve the [my] land for you; just stay off of it..

Taxes ...(DUES) are needed to support the Government, ALL Governments. It is immature to think anyone should take and not give anything back. Cost of living raises ... in the past, were given to compensate for rising taxes among other things. The NEED is to find a way that 'dues' are not wasted by those with personal agendas...like starting wars for profit. States with low taxes are most likely to have the poorest schools with the highest dropout rates, the highest prison population, the highest poverty rates, the poorest health conditions, etc., etc! Now being TAXED out of your home IS immoral, I agree!
