Do any of you people who make this up, even visit these places??? Fargo? Really in the winter time? Philadelphia? Really...anytime? It's a big, crazy city... humid in the summer and colder than cold in the winter... West Virginia...come on. No one purposely moves to WV. Texas and SC...ever spent time there in the summer?? It's great if you are a lizard or you love to sweat...eight months a year. You got maybe four places correct. Next time, do your homework.

Venice???  I live in Sarasota 15 miles up the coast. More child rapists in Venice except for Miami. 150,000 will get you a 500sq.ft 40 yr. old hotel room turned into condo. Last place I'd ever want my folks to retire. If you ever notice...Forbes and MSN are getting further away from reality.

Apparently the best place to retire is the travel writer's desk at MSN. Guaranteed income, don't have to work very hard, or even think, really.

Is it my imagination, or does MSN keeps recycling the retirement "best places" to live topic a couple of times a year?  And it seems like those places from last year's "best places" list have been displaced with a whole new group of "best places" with this current web article.
I'm making notes about this list, and compare it to the inevitable new "best places to retire" list that will be published again this year.

I think MSN Money has a total of 20 subject matters to choose from in a year. If they were a fast food restaurant the only thing on the menu would be rehash.

WOW, and I do mean WOW. I wouldn't live in any of those places retired or not. Did the person just throw darts at the map?? This person is a jack wagon. Next time have some one write the article that has some sense.

If you don't mind cold winters or hot summers, I can list WAY better places to retire.  Here goes:

Cold winters.

Boise (I agree with that one)

Flagstaff, AZ

Orem, Utah

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Eugene, Oregon

Durango, Colorado

Nevada City, California

Ashville, North Carolina

Camden, Maine

St. Johnsbury, Vermont

Hot summers:

Phoenix, AZ  (The only big city I would recommend)

Green Valley, AZ

Breaux Bridge, Louisiana

Natchez, Mississippi

Neither hot or cold:

Ramona, California

San Luis Obispo, California

Just my opinion.  Nothing more.  You may have better places, but I've been to all of these and I like them.  If it was just for the summer only, I would include:

Fairbanks, Alaska, Juneau, Alaska, and Whitehorse, Yukon

College town is a con, not a pro, unless you attend or work at the college.
