Anyone born in the South knows that this is the worst place to retire.  We have been forced to pay higher prices for homes because of the influx of northerners.  Our property taxes have gone up and our wages were never that high and we retire on lower pensions.  

Traffic has become a nightmare, crime is outrageous.  We didn't have all of these issues in the magnitude that we have them now.  Not until they started coming here in droves.  And, they are the worse complainers.  Problem is, the North is no better, too cold.  Florida has too many snakes and is too flat.

They left out Maryland as one of the worst places to retire as the contant raising of taxes and fees by the state legislature has made it almost impossible to retire and live in the state.

Why are all of the worst states in the South, where the cost of living is really low? I've known several people from New York and Illinois that move South and buy cheaper homes with lower property taxes and raise their standard of living. I can't believe that New York, California, Illinois, Washington, etc are better places to retire.

Much of this is useless information because the vast majority of people do not move when they retire. They stay exactly where they are.

Wow, what a load of crap. They look at crime across the state? Not the states with high income taxs on retirement and Social Security benefits? I'm from California and moved to Kentucky. It is extraordinarily more beneficial to retire here than California. This was just another distorted shot at the southern states. And don't talk to me about Kentucky Crime until you've lived in L.A. or the Bay area for a year. This was a joke.

obviously you morons that talk about income taxes should know when you retire, you DONT QUALIFY FOR INCOME TAX, income tax is for when your working, ARE YOU WORKING WHEN YOUR RETIRED, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.​ 

so based on the quality of life and safety, it is no surprise the south has the poorest quality of life, poorest safety record, and overall, poor environment to live in unless you like living in filth and squealer.
