Here's how much pricier July 4th will be

You'll be shelling out more dough to mark America's birthday this year.

This post comes from Katie Little at partner site CNBC.

CNBC on MSN MoneyFor his annual Independence Day bash, California resident Julian Miranda plans to shell out about $600 to contribute to a potluck spread for about 60 to 80 people.

"No, I'm just going to grin and bear it," he said.

Miranda's expected jump in food costs echoes the findings of a new informal survey from the American Farm Bureau Federation, which showed the average cost for a July 4th picnic for 10 is $58.72, 5.4 percent higher than last year.

The survey is based on retail prices from 84 shoppers' findings in 26 states and Puerto Rico.

Meat and dairy prices rose the most. The cost of ground round shot up 13.4 percent, pork spare ribs 13.2 percent and American cheese 14.3 percent.

"Beef supplies are fairly tight right now. We've had multiple years of drought in key production areas," said John Anderson, AFBF's deputy chief economist, in a phone interview.

"There was quite a bit of herd liquidation," Anderson said. "We have not rebuilt from that situation yet."

A virus that's killed millions of baby pigs has also pressured pork prices.

While American cheese was the largest percentage gainer, its small portion of the basket translated into a relatively minimal effect on the total price.

"The main thing that's going on in the dairy sector is we've got really strong demand," Anderson said.

The biggest drop in the survey came from ketchup prices, which fell 12.3 percent.

Looking forward, Anderson sees a silver lining for future cookout baskets.

"The market basket is primarily rising because of what's going on with meat prices," he said. "As we look out, we do see responses in the production system that will ultimately slow those prices down."

It didn’t happen all at once, but the dream that was the United States of America, the Great Republic, has died. Other countries hostile to the idea of true freedom didn’t cause it; it wasn’t caused by a radical religious organization. The downfall of the United States was all from within its own borders, by its own people. The people, for whom others have died, have allowed the country to die a slow death. The me too, me first attitude that started many years ago, along with the idea that all are entitled to the fruits of others hard work, has allowed this country to bleed to death. When the British raised the tax on tea, our forefathers should have just shut up and paid the tax. Almost 240 years later, what has changed? Thousands have died for absolutely nothing.

Farm Aid Bachmann they call her.  Not really a farmer just takes advantage of those free federal dollars to be unproductive.  Laughter.

Look it up if you don't believe it.   Tea Bagger gets free federal dollars while preaching self reliance.

Probably someone like Joe the Plumber who in spite of his far right talk has been on welfare several times.   Or a Michele Bachman who is a Tea Party politician and has lived off Farm Aid subsidies.  She is not the only hypocritical Republican, some get millions to not plant under Farm Aid Bill.

Where  you hear a far right winger you can bet there is government assistance in their background.

Some I know preach self reliance while their kids were all born under Medicaid.

that's what happens when the libs run things, more regulations and higher taxes cost producers, they have to raise their prices. Less regulation and lower taxes would have the opposite effect. It's real simple if you raise the cost to produce, prices will go up.

Note that I bring facts while the GED grad resorts to hijacking my handle because he is not smart enough to debate my assertions and facts.  Typical Hannity listener, devoid of ammunition to battle

Someone hijacked my handle.  A person who cannot debate, probably a GED grad, Fox News watcher.
