Food freebies, plus craft workshops for kids

Don't forget to check newspaper fliers for restaurant coupons.

We don’t have too many new food freebies this week, so we’ll repeat some of last week’s deals that are still good and remind you of a few perennial freebies, including craft workshops for kids.

Perhaps the dearth of deals and coupons is a sign that we should all cook more. We are noticing restaurant coupons in the Sunday newspaper fliers, so be sure to check there.

Remember that not all local stores participate in all national promotions, so it’s always good to call ahead.

Here are the latest deals, including a few repeats:

Once you’ve eaten your frugal and healthy meal cooked at home, consider some of these free activities:

  • At 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, participating U.S. LEGO stores will have their free monthly mini-model build event. This month, the kids are building a groundhog. The kids can take home any LEGOs that are part of their creation.
  • Lowe’s offers free Build & Grow workshops for children twice a month. The next clinics are Feb. 13, when kids can build a jewelry organizer, and Feb. 27.
  • Home Depot hosts a free kids workshop from 9 a.m. to noon on the first Saturday of the month. On Feb. 6, kids can build a shelf to display model cars.
  • Next weekend, the first weekend of the month, Bank of America customers can visit museums free through the bank’s Museums On Us program. Just show your Bank of America credit or debit card Saturday, Feb. 6, or Sunday, Feb. 7, and get in free to participating museums. Each card admits two guests.
