Friday freebies: Ice cream, shakes and limeade

Wal-Mart won't make you scream to get free ice cream, but you'll have to RSVP if you want a free Chick-fil-A sandwich.

Thank goodness it's Friday and time for Friday food deals and freebies.

Some of last week's deals are still good, including Taco Bell's $2 meals, a promotion that's likely to last for a while.

Wal-Mart is celebrating the "Joy of Ice Cream" Saturday, May 22, something we certainly agree is worth celebrating. During the event, you can get a free ice cream sundae while supplies last. The store will offer Breyers and Blue Bunny ice cream and frozen yogurt, with Hershey's chocolate syrup, Reddi-wip and fresh strawberries. Most stores will celebrate from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., but you can check the hours for your local store here.

Otherwise, this is a big week for free drinks. No, they're not the "happy hour" kind, though local restaurants and casual chains are offering lots of those deals.

Here are this week's freebies and deals, which we found with some help from our friends at Cities on the Cheap:

  • The first 500,000 customers who print out and use this coupon will get a free Limeade Sparkler at Taco Bell. The coupon is good through July 11 or until 500,000 coupons have been redeemed.
  • Here's a buy-one-get-one-free deal that works for solo shoppers. Sonic is offering BOGO shakes and malts through June 27. You can either get both shakes at the same time, or you can buy one shake and get a coupon for a second shake that you can use until July 15.
  • Orange Julius has a coupon (.pdf file) that allows you to buy one smoothie and get one for $1 through June 30. One coupon per visit.
  • Barnes & Noble has a bunch of coupons, including one that allows you to buy one Frappuccino and get one free at the Starbucks cafes inside the stores. The coupon is not good at other Starbucks locations.
  • Philly Pretzel Factory is offering customers a free cheesesteak pretzel from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, May 24.
  • Chick-fil-A is introducing a spicy chicken sandwich June 7 and will give away a limited number between May 31 and June 5. To get the deal, you have to RSVP on the website.

Remember that not all local restaurants participate in all national promotions, so you may want to check ahead.
