Friday food deals and freebies
Food coupons, audiobooks, kids' workshops and free museum admission are among this week's specials.
Here it is Friday already and time for another edition of Friday food freebies and deals. We’ve got some deals you can’t eat this weekend, too, thanks to our friends at Cities on the Cheap.
Some of last week’s deals are still valid. Don’t forget that regular restaurant happy hours are a good value at many establishments.
- Bing: Find local foods
If you’re worried you can’t possibly see all the Oscar-nominated films by Sunday, you might want to check out the Oscar movie marathons at the AMC and Cinemark chains.
Mark your calendar for Free Cone Day, coming up March 23 at Ben & Jerry’s.

Here are this week’s deals:
- Become a fan of Ruby Tuesday on Facebook and get a coupon for a free appetizer with a $10 purchase. When I clicked, I got a coupon good through March 14.
- Buy one entrée at Chevys Fresh Mex and use this printable coupon to get a second entrée for $3.99. The deal is good through March 27. In other specials, kids eat free on Tuesdays (one kid’s meal per adult entrée), and you can get $3 drinks and half-price appetizers in the cantina from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Sign up for the e-mail newsletter, and they’ll send you a coupon for a free appetizer.
- Get a coupon for a free panini at Corner Bakery Cafe if you’re one of the first 15,000 to request it on Facebook. You’ll need to provide a mailing address, and you’ll get the coupon via snail mail.
- Buy a SuperSonic Cheeseburger at Sonic and get a free medium order of crispy tots. This is a limited-time offer, but the Web site doesn’t say when it ends.
- Become one of the first 100,000 Facebook fans of Sunchips and get a coupon for a free bag in the mail.
- At Ikea March 5-7, the Swedish meatball plate is $1. The offer is not valid in Hicksville, N.Y., or in Houston.
And, for some deals you can’t eat:
- Are you wondering how close the “Alice in Wonderland” movie is to Lewis Carroll’s original text? Through March 16, you can download a free audiobook of “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” read by Michael York, at AudioFileMagazine.com.
- Bank of America customers can visit museums free March 6-7 through the bank’s Museums On Us program.
- Lakeshore Learning Stores have free crafts for kids from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. most Saturdays. On March 6, the project is a crazy kaleidoscope.
- The Home Depot hosts a free kids workshop the first Saturday of the month. The project for March 6 is a rain gauge.
