Friday deals: Subs, burgers, tea and lemonade

Free events include craft workshops for kids and a 'Toy Story' celebration.

It's once again time for Friday food (and a few other) deals and freebies.

It's also time for the World Cup soccer tournament. If you're a soccer fan, check your local pubs and sports bars for special World Cup deals.

Some of last week's deals and coupons are still valid. Free and cheap summer movie programs for kids start in many cities next week, and bookstores are offering your kids a free book if they read a certain number.

We're seeing the first of the Father's Day deals.

Denny's has a Facebook application that will let you make a Father's Day card and get a coupon for free ice cream floats for you and your dad with purchase of a Value Menu item or entree. Comments on the Facebook page indicate some problems with the app, so you might have to try it more than once.

Walgreens will let you make a free photo card for Father's Day through Saturday, June 12.

Here are the new food deals:

  • Buy a 6-inch or 12-inch Blimpie Best sub sandwich at Blimpie and get a 6-inch sub free with this coupon. The deal is good through July 31.
  • Buy one burger and get one free at Champps Americana locations with this Facebook coupon, good through June 15. This can't be used in conjunction with the half-price burger promotion on Mondays at some locations.
  • Popeyes is offering a free 22-ounce Cane Sweeeet iced tea on Saturday, June 12.
  • Hot Dog on a Stick is offering a free -- what else -- hot dog on a stick from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, to celebrate its 60th anniversary. Hot dogs are $1 every Tuesday.
  • Long John Silver's is offering half-price Ice Flow Frozen Lemonade during "happy hour" from 2 to 5 p.m. every day. If you register online, you can also get access to nine printable coupons with such offers as a free Ice Flow Frozen Lemonade or a free piece of Crispy Breaded Whitefish.

And, for a few deals you can't eat:

  • Lowe's offers its free Build & Grow workshop for kids this weekend. The June 12 project is a picture frame, and the June 26 project is a monster truck.
  • Borders bookstores are hosting a free "Toy Story 3" event at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, with crafts, story time, games and more.
  • Lakeshore Learning Store has free crafts for kids from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. most Saturdays. Upcoming projects are a portable storage pouch June 12, a Father's Day notepad holder June 19 and a summer fruit basket June 26.
  • Michael's also has craft workshops for kids, some free and some free with purchase.

Remember that not all local stores and restaurants participate in all national promotions, so it's always wise to call ahead.
