Stamp Out Hunger 2011 wants YOU
On May 14, put something in the blue bag. Even a can of soup can make a difference.
The National Association of Letter Carriers Annual Food Drive takes place on May 14. You probably got a blue plastic bag in your mailbox this week. But even if you didn't, you can still help.
Use your own bag if you have to, and put in it whatever you can spare of the following items:
- Pasta.
- Boxed goods (e.g., cereal or mac 'n' cheese).
- Canned soup or stews.
- Canned fruit, juice, vegetables, fish or meat.
- Calculator: How much will my savings be worth?
If you don't want to put out food, please consider making a donation to your regional food bank or to Feeding America, a national hunger relief organization. These groups can stretch even $5 a long, long way. Feeding America's website notes that a single dollar can provide the makings for seven meals.
- Bing: Hunger in America
If you're living on the edge yourself, search for food pantries in your area. When times are better, you can give back.
And if you can afford to give right now? Please do.
