5 Gift cards Mom really wants

Flowers? Meh. Breakfast in bed? Well, OK. $50 gift certificate to Zappos? NOW you're talking to Mamma!

Whoops. Sunday is Mother's Day. And here you forgot to make reservations at her favorite restaurant. What now? Think fast!

For Mom?

According to the National Retail Federation, some $2 billion will be spent on gift cards on Mother's Day. So you're not alone in tapping this option.

Here are five gift card ideas that will make Mom really smile:

1. Zappos
Yeah, that's right. Cute shoes. Mom's bought you shoes for years. Now it's your turn. And a gift card option removes the guilt-factor.

2. BevMo
Once again, you're surprised? Moms work hard 24/7. They deserve a little merry making of their own now and then. Some Moms might like their wine a little more than others, but no questions asked, right?

3. Amazon
The world's largest online store has the Mother's Day gift card scene locked up. You can get a physical card sent to you overnight for free (although it's getting a little late in the day for this option), and you have dozens of designs to choose from. Or simply print one out and present it to Mom yourself. And what can't you buy at Amazon these days? Books for her Kindle are just the start. It's like giving Mom a $100 shopping spree at a giant shopping center where she doesn't even have to find parking.

4. Sur la Table
Besides kitchen goodies that might make her swoon (you KNOW she wants that KitchenAid stand-up mixer), you can also give the gift of cooking classes. Not that there's anything wrong with her cooking now, of course.

5. Etsy.com
Look: Who are you to second guess your mom's taste in jewelry or decor? This gift card gives her carte blanche to shop the leading hand-made craft and home goods mart and pick what she wants in the privacy of her own home. Just promise not to opine on her choice of egg-shell nesting dolls and everybody's happy.

But what about those reservations you didn't get to in time? BlackboardEats.com, the foodie insider's subscription-only deal site, is offering 50% off its VIP membership now through Mother's Day. Grab your mom this deal and she can pick her own restaurant next time. Maybe you'll get lucky and she'll treat you.
