Freebies and deals: Half off Entertainment Books

Plus you can find free glasses, BOGO meals and treats, and a mystery from Dairy Queen.

Friday arrived pretty quickly this week, and once again it's time to review food and other freebies and deals. Bring on the weekend.

A great deal right now is half off the cost of the 2011 Entertainment Book, plus free shipping, through March 14. The Entertainment Book wouldn't make sense in the rural community where I live, but Donna Freedman is a big fan of the Seattle edition. You can check here to see if there's a book available where you live or for a city you plan to visit.

Meanwhile, our pal Julia Scott, aka Bargain Babe, tipped her readers off to a free prescription glasses offer going on right now via this Facebook page for

Dairy Queen has a mystery freebie coming up on March 9, it appears. All we can do is direct you to this website. (A sure sign of spring in my town is that the DQ has reopened after its long annual winter's nap. Nothing like enjoying a Blizzard during a blizzard.)

Some deals we mentioned last week are still available. Also, remember that not all stores participate in promotions, so call yours first before you go.

Here are other new deals we've come across, thanks in great part to our friends at Cities on the Cheap, who also list daily deals available from Groupon and similar sites.

  • Corner Bakery Café has a coupon (.pdf file) for a free sweet when you pay for lunch or dinner. It expires March 20.
  • Through March 18, buy one salmon meal at Ikea -- it sounds yummy -- and get a second meal of equal or lesser value free.
  • T.G.I. Friday's offers a free entrée with this coupon with the purchase of another entrée and appetizer. This deal expires March 9.
  • Moe's Southwest Grill offers a free kid's meal with the purchase of an adult meal of $5 or more -- if you're among the first 6,000 people to provide them with your personal information.
  • "Like" Panda Express on Facebook and get a coupon valid only on March 9 for free Golden Treasure Shrimp.
  • Pizza Hut has a free order of breadsticks if you place an online order -- a bonus for its Facebook fans, good through Sunday, March 6.

Other freebies that aren't food-related:

  • Pottery Barn has a workshop on Sunday, March 6, at 10 a.m. on how to accessorize your home. The March 27 workshop is about throwing a perfect party. They would like for you to RSVP.
  • Williams-Sonoma offers free cooking and related courses. Check your local store for a schedule and to sign up.
  • Lakeshore Learning Stores offers free kids' craft workshops from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Next up is a Mardi Gras mask.

The online state-by-state list says we have no entertainment book for my area but we do, selling for $39.95 at the local drugstore and bookstores. Are these books assembled independently by a franchise in  the local area, not by one national company? I can't get my half-off deal if they don't know the book exists! :-)

I knew that Microsoft would have the deals business sooner or later but i dont think they would be able to fight against groupon deals.... i think groupon deals would be way ahead of Microsoft's because groupon is real!!!! and ms would be cloning groupon!!!!
