 A good article.

As I finished it, I thought, "The old, grouchy guys will be whining about politics again."

Sadly, I was right.

None of these things affect me. That's the beautiful thing about living below the poverty line. Everything listed is so foreign to my budget I don't even think about them. I remember reading about someone that said if they buy a cheap DVD bootleg, they're told they're cheating the film makers out of their ticket price. Not really because they were never going to get it anyway. Who can afford to go to the movies anymore? The one about the lottery always get me though. In line behind someone who spends $10 on scratch tickets and is then standing outside throwing away all the losers. They seem to be in a hurry to throw away $10 as fast as they can. They can just give it to me. They'll have the same feeling afterwards anyway. AHHH poverty, what bliss!!!!  "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose".

This is just their way of saying, "You're not really poor. You still have more you can sacrifice so we can get richer." Next they'll say you can give up food. In fact, one of the articles earlier pointed to ways you can decrease your spending at the grocery mart. Their #1 suggestion was to go on a vegetarian diet and eat lots of beans and rice.

I'm glad that at least one mainstream financial news medium will admit that money markets are a rip-off. And money markets were correctly identified of being less profitable than  lottery tickets. Gotta love the stock market -  the worlds greatest shell and cup game.

though local taxes are a ripoff also,  at least I can see  some  return:  garbage collection, street lights, law enfoircement at local events, etc, etc. .. On the federal level, all i see is  lavish expenditures, excessive waste, fancy cars and jets  on the campaign trail.

Yesterday, MSN money's solution for getting more out of Social Security in your retirement was to ask your boss for a raise.  Today, they say that you should rent an apartment instead of purchase a home, ride a bike to work, and ditch your TV.

Every time you vote for someone else to get something for nothing, you get poorer.  Certain special interest groups are always in the spotlight trying to gather sympathy for a percentage of the population and they explain to us how all children should have medical insurance, all poor should have this or that, etc. and pretty soon, the poor people are reaping benefit upon benefit and none of these benefits are taxable so they have virtually no income.  They live rent free in subsidized housing, have free medical insurance, free welfare, free food stamps, and when the end of the year comes around, they get thousands of dollars in income tax refunded that they never paid in.  All the while, you are working and don't have medical insurance and can't feed your family as well as the "poor" family next door.  At the end of the year, you get a couple of hundred for your tax return, and the family next door goes to the Caribbean for their vacation.  Who is poor?  I will tell you one thing:  If all of the cheating on the entitlement programs stopped and the people who got the benefits were the ones who really needed it, our taxes would go down, our schools would have enough money to teach our kids, and things would get better quickly.  To take the first steps, stop hiring people under the table to do work for you.  Every person I know on disability, welfare, and workmens' comp is working in some manner or other.  This is what is making our country poor.  The fact that the poor are richer than the working people is become more apparent every day.

Having children you can not afford is very costly.

Either for you personally or the taxpayer.

Obama should talk about that for a change- particularly the high rate of illegitimacy.

I just wonder with house sales going up and the price of houses up a little, how does anyone get a 30 year loan, when the risk of job lose within 5 years of the loan?  Are we back on if you buy now it will increase in price and you'll make a profit?  Houses as an investment to flip is a bad idea and will make you poor.  Houses only increase in value when viewed as an investment to put a home.
