Wyoming has the 5th lowest unemployment, 7th lowest crime rate. 23rd in education. 13th highest median household income. 6th lowest below poverty line. Normally ranks 1st or 2nd as Best run States in America. I looked up Wyoming stats because I live here. I am sure many of the other states on this list rank well too. So NO just because we tax less here does not mean we are ignorant hillbillies living on well fare. I personally make a 6 figure yearly salary and work 6 months out of the year. No I never went to college. My son on the other hand is about to get his chemical engineering degree. Btw he has not taken any loans what so ever. He works extra hours when ever possible as a manager where he works. So to those of you Libtards who are convinced high taxes mean better living you can keep your over taxed, rotting from within supposed Utopia's and stay the hell out of my state.

There sure is a lot of criticisim from Californians and Yankees about the southern red states....It's funny that so many of you move here.

We in the beautiful south don't dislike all northerners just the smarta$$ know it all ones. The ones that move down here to get away from what ever overtaxed crowded sh!thole they are from only to constantly run their mouths about how this or that was better up north or bellyaching about how they can't get this food or that food like they did up north or how they did this or that up north.. Here's some advice to help you get along. Don't be a know- it -all loudmouth..be humble and act appreciative to be living among fine friendly and open people. Accept that you are not up north and things, food and people are different and it won't change just because you decided to move here......One last thing for the upper east coast folk...don't play up your yankee accent because to a southerner it is harsh and ugly sounding.

Remember that the road that brought you here is still there and can take you right back if our home is not to your liking.

What happen to Alaska ? No state income tax, no sales tax and a permanent fund that pays each resident a dividend each year .  By the way we are a red state also.

Pure ignorance, liberals run from overtaxed blue states, then vote for dummydicks in the low tax stated they just moved to in an effort to escape taxes.

That's as dumb as it gets but then again, with liberals there is no bottom to ignorance

How do democrats survive in these states that do not extort money from productive industry? They really need more useless leech government workers and of course the poor slobs they pimp for a very lush living.

Sandra Block must be a liberal.  Most on her list are liberal states.  Any state with an income tax is not tax friendly

You missed the most friendly state.  Alaska has no state income tax, no state sales tax and pays each resident a cash dividend every year.  Who does your research?

Oh by the way New Mexico and Delaware aren't exactly red states folks!  I believe the President took both of those states.  So go ahead and be argumentative over a simple poll!  Make it about politics and libs vs. conservatives.  Go ahead and keep dividing this nation instead of saying left wing politics and right wing politics are wrong. Go ahead and keep Washington D.C. divided so nothing gets done.  Preach your right wing venom or your left wing venom and lets just disintegrate into madness.  I can't read one single article without someone bringing up politics.  It could be a story about puppies and some how an idiot would tie it to politics.  Geez!!!!!!

As a resident of Mississippi, the one down side they get you on - if you stay in a metro area like Jackson - we have ad valorem taxes on car tags. So if you buy a 2014 Mercedes Benz S Class - you looking at about $3,000 for a one year car tag. Of course it goes down in increments over the years as the car depreciates. But if you have that car for at least 4 years you looking at paying the county $4500 in taxes just to drive it on the roads.

This authors needs to do a little research....Nevada sales tax is more like 8.1 or 8.3 NOT 6.5, we haven't seen 6.5 in years!!!!  Another sloppy article by MSN.

Can't understand why Alabama has to have state taxes when there are some states that survive without it. Florida does not have sales tax on food and I know a lot of folks who live near the Florida/Alabama line make that trip to Florida to save that money. Sure wished we could do that in north Alabama.

I don't understand why WV is on the list.  I remember my Aunt telling me that she had to pay taxes when purchasing vehicles and then paying taxes every year on it as long as you own it.  We live in Ohio and have a state and county sales tax rate of 6.5 percent.  We also pay no tax on food unless you eat in a restaurant, even prepared foods are not taxed if you order it to go.  We own a boat, motorcycle, and two vehicles.  It would cost us more to live in WV having to pay taxes each year on all of those and I am sure we would not have the same income in WV that we have here.
