Isn't it about time that "We the People" set term limits on how long a Congress person can remain in office? It seems to me that there are too many of them that have lost sight of why they are there! It is no longer about what is best for the people of the U.S. but the need of the party to win. I believe the following:

1) Set term limits.

2) Do not allow automatic pay raises ( We get raises for what we accomplish. Let the people of the respective state decide by reelecting them, then they would receive a raise equal to the cost of living plus five percent). Again, the National Debt issue .

3) No retirement money until the retirement age established for social security.

4) Complete transparency of cost for all their perquisite. ( Congressional Gym...etc.)

5) No more "PORK" added to bills... it maybe good for those that support a particular politician but "We The People" can no longer afford "bridges to no where". Remember the National Dept!!!!????

Don'T You Think It Is Time For "The Silent Majority" To Make A Lot Of Noise,

In Stead Of Mumbling,Complaining And Going With The Flow?????

But the majority of Americans are terrible savers, so this is a good way for them to assure they have some funds in the spring time for; summer vacations, or anything.  Otherwise most people just tend to spend it vs. save it, which I guess is good for the economy, but not for Average Joe that spends every nickel in his pocket

This CITIZEN agrees with " nobodyoo777"  100%.    Democrats want to raise taxes and want the citizens to be HAPPY about it. Is that IGNORANT OR WHAT?  Our problem is that the Government wants more EVERY YEAR. As a person receiving social security and others we have to be satisfied  with the crumbs they send us.

Sure, give recommendations to save on taxes by telling people to spend...  Most of these suggestions still leave you losing the money.  In the end, it really doesn't matter if you lose $X to taxes or to something else.  You are still out the money.  Unless you want to "stick it" to the government, you're not really helping yourself by spending money.

It's sad the tax rates are so high that the american people need to spend time trying to save more of their hard earned money. Flat tax at 10% for everyone - even the poor. If you have no "skin in the game" then you shouldn't be playing the game!

msn is the only website that will post an article telling people how to pay less taxes, then the next article blaming the problems and huge national deficit on people NOT paying enough in taxes

Keep in mind that, in order to defer more into your 401(k) plan before year-end, the plan document has to allow the change in deferral.  Also, if you are a highly-compensated employee, the plan will normally cap your contributions at a certain percentage, if the plan is not a safe-harbor plan. Check with your HR Department to find out if and when you can make changes to your deferral percentage.

Instead of bitching and moaning, why don't we revolt and demand a referendum for all issues that affect the citizens of the USA.  Also, think of political parties as "good vs. evil" depending on which party you belong to.  There should only be one party, and if we don't like what the voted-in president, congressman, or house rep does, simply fire them and someone better to replace them.

If I couldn`t get anything done at work, I`d be FIRED!  Why aren`t THE PEOPLE standing TOGETHER to show these ***holes who`s boss? It seems after reading these comments, Everybody has an opinion. I don't think sharing our opinion here gets much done either. Meanwhile, OUR country is getting run into the ground.  I don't think our enemy is REALLY on foreign soil.

I agree with the refund argument. However, I often ask myself, if EVERYONE filed the "perfect" return where the taxes owed matches the taxes paid exactly by 12/31 then the government would not have the "interest free loan".

What happens when the government does not have your interest free money to "play" with during the year? They start mandating higher taxes so now its not a loan. Its an obligation. In other words, I feel like its "loan it to me or im taking it for good" strategy because they really do use these monies during the year.

Just a thought.

I will change my withholdings this year though. I increased my 401K contribution every year so this coming year I will definitely increase it to max out. I will also change my allowances so more of it is in my paycheck.

I,like most people had the brainwashed mindset that a big refund is good. Its like using the government as your bank account. And for those who have no self control can be a good thing but like the article states with all this fraud, who knows what might happen.  We may get a letter in the mail from the govt saying "sorry we need your money to cover our losses and since you are a citizen it is your obligation to contribute to the solution" .....LOL!!

I suggest we start by putting Congressional benefits packages on the chopping block.  These Republicans are determined not to agree with the President because he became President again and because he is not dare I say it, "white".  We all want lower taxes.  I will have to move funds out of my IRA if no deal is reached and I hope they are looking at that Alternative Minimum tax.  It will hurt so many of us.
