4 taxes unknown 40 years ago

Taxes can be a product of their times, such as these levies imposed within the past 4 decades. They target travelers, Nobel winners, even criminals.

FIRST OFF THE MEDICAL ON A W-2 UNLESS FREE TO YOU, IS TAX DEDUCTIBLE TO MEDICAL EXPENSES. SECOND, NEVER TO MY KNOWLEDGE HAS SS OR UNEMPLOYMENT BEEN FREE, THE EMPLOYEE AND EMPLOYER CONTRIBUTE TO THIS FUND. IF SOMEONE COLLECTS UNEMPLOYMENT, EMPLOYER PAYS ADDL. MONEY FOR NEXT QTR. TAX.  THIS IS TAKEN FROM THE EMPLOYER'S FUND. THEY MUST PAY TO MAKE UP FOR THE UNEMPLOYED WHO COLLECT FROM THE FUND. I DO FEEL ALL THE ADDL. STATE TAXES ON EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN, SHOULD BE DEDUCTIBLE. ALONG WITH UTILITIES TAXING, CABLE TAXES. THESE ARE ADDL. TAXES WE PAY THESE COMPANIES, WHO NEED TO ACCOUNT FOR SUCH TAXES. I AM SURE THEY HAVE A SURPLUS, WHICH SHOULD BE A REBATE TO THE CONSUMERS. WE ARE TAXED TO DEATH AND BEYOND. NO REASON FOR ANYONE TO PAY ADDL. TAX AFTER DEATH. EVER!!! PAID ALL YOUR LIFE FOR WHAT YOU HAVE, TAXES WERE PAID IN FULL. SOME STATES ARE KILLING US WITH THE ADDL. TAXES. WE PAY  FEDERAL GOVERNMENT  A TAX, AND THE STATE TOO. IF YOU ASK ME, THIS IS DOUBLE TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION. NO ACCOUNTING FOR WHAT WE PAY OR WHERE IT REALLY IS SPENT. THE GOVERNMENT FEELS FREE TO  JUST SPEND OUR MONIES WHERE THEY PLEASE, TO WHOM THEY PLEASE. WHAT WE NEED HERE IS THE IRS TO CHECK ON THE MONIES WE PAY AND FOLLOW UP WITH GOVERNMENT ENTITIES AS TO HOW THE MONIES WERE USED. PUT THE IRS TO A REAL TASK THAT MIGHT BENEFIT ALL.

I guess that "stolen property, bribery, and kickbacks tax" had to be added after the lobbyists descended on Washington so all the politicians would have some way to legally declare it on their taxes.

All this whining about taxes, My wife and mine income taxes for this year was 7% of our income add ss and medicare it was about 9% for alittle under $100k income. I live in a state with no income tax just a sales tax so add another 1% for that, could have been less if I didn't buy stuff (mostly from China). So my taxes are about 10% no big deal. Now as for government spending , no matter who is in power Obama, Bush Reagan, they all spend on things one person might like and another might not. You can't please everyone on that. And are there people (businesses) with their hand in the cookie jar, of course there is just like in every other station in life. But to quote my father  who job depended on the space and defense program in the 60's -90's.."there is too much government spending"..I would say " what about all the gov't spent on the programs you worked on?" His reply .." Well those programs were good government spending"...Mighty convenient isn't it in this don't cut my program world, but cut government spending as long as it don't effect me. So STFU already about taxes!!! My big complaint is what I spend on insurances in a year, health, life auto, home is almost 20% of my income, and in return I get nothing (well alittle bit from the whole life). It might take until April to pay for my taxes, but you never get a break on insurance.

Any mention of what top federal income tax rates were 40 years ago?  Let's try 70% (down from 91% ten years previous and now down to 35%).  Can't imagine why you've seen more types of taxes.  Think those two things could be related?  I know facts and math are not in the right-wing wheelhouse, but you all are starting to sound utterly absurd.  Let me guess, more tax cuts, that will fix the deficit and reduce the debt?  In reality, your problem isn't tax rates, your problem is that real wages in this country are almost exactly what they were 50 years ago.  This, despite the fact that worker productivity is about 40% higher than it was in 1980.  In fact, your problem is with your employer, but that doesn't fit with the nonsensical diatribe, does it.  Know where it all goes?  All of your precious CEO's (who think it unpatriotic to pay taxes).  Over roughly this same time frame, they went from making, on average, about 40-50 times what the lowest paid worker in their company made.  Now, it is almost 500 times.   Go shake your fist at your boss, geniuses!

And the taxes will NEVER be ENOUGH for our huge spenders in Washington --- led by our socialistic big mouth president who never misses a photo op and always has been campaigning since the day of his inauguration.  We must vote him out for any chance to SAVE our country from financial ruin !!!

You forgot unemployment taxes and social security taxes. Both, to the best of my knowledge, used to be tax free. Now you are double taxed on SS if you make over a piddling amount and the threshold isn't indexed for inflation. More people are paying it each year.
