Apple (AAPL) released a software update for iOS 7, its mobile operating system, to patch a potential security risk for users of iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

In its release, which became available on Friday, Apple said the software update "provides a fix for SSL connection verification." SSL is an acronym for secure socket layer, which allows data to be encrypted when sent over the Internet.

According to a blog post from security technology firm CrowdStrike, this vulnerability allows a would-be attacker to intercept data such as email messages to or from your phone. An attacker could alter the data to "deliver exploits to take control of your system," according to the post.

CrowdStrike recommends that users install the latest software updates as soon as possible once they are on a trusted network connection.

On Apple's security support page, the company said the flaw stemmed from a failure to validate the authenticity of the connection. Apple said the patch restores the missing validation steps.

Apple said the same vulnerability exists in Apple's OS X operating system for its Mac computers. "We are aware of this issue and already have a software fix that will be released very soon," an Apple spokeswoman said.

Apple has to produce something soon.  If it can do it great and Apple will have proven to be cheap at this level, but even then I would not say it will be a hold as it will have to come up with something new again and then again.  The groupies here will continue to worship the stock, and scream about this, and thumbs down this post and like posts, I have seen it time and time again.  Then they lose their butt or just tread water and then blame EVIL WALL STREET and "THE MANIPULATORS" for their troubles.  Never mind that dozens of non-Wall Street Joe-blowers will have warned them, it will still be evil wall street's fault.

Not a problem for me. I have never used un-secure wifi and my emails contain nothing sensitive.
