Not every stock on this list is an outright buy now, but these undervalued giants and smaller growth companies are all trading at a hefty discount to their real value.

Fellow Americans, don't let these WALL STREET ONE-PERCENTERS play with your 401k money!

Take it all out, pay the penalty, which there shouldn't be, and INVEST LOCALLY! You are just LOANING THEM YOUR MONEY TO PLAY WITH! They STOLE you GUARANTEED PENSIONS & gave you thier INSURANCE POLICY which is YOUR 401k !

Invest locally, where you will not be penalized for an early withdrawal and you can keep an eye on all your transactions first hand!

Please explain to me why I should invest in A. Fracking when it is destroying water and our environment or B AIG or Citigroup when I was one of those who bailed them out of their financial greed produced Failure---have they paid us back YET?

Solar is great but much too expensive for the majority and not quite as efficient as once believed. Sure sounds as if these big corps are desperate for our investment money while still failing to lower their corp. bonuses! And they more money for more perks and bonuses, no thank you!

Buy Apple in the low 400's?  Apple hasn't been there since last July and is currently in the 550's!  When was this written?

ALL of the energy companies are inelastic demand therefore excellent recommendations.  Medical and diagnostic companies sound solid based upon the rapidly escalation of rampant diseases in the U.S.S.A.  The consumer electronics always confuse me.  They recommend investment on the same day they have an article about the idiot 'social media'  Facebook crashing and burning. (?)

A year from now some MSN reporter will write an article telling you about stocks you shouldn't have bought in the last year.  Anyone willing to wager that at least one, if not more, of the stocks on that list are mentioned in this article?

And no, I'm not bashing these particular stocks, just the consistency of MSN articles.

So the recommendation is to invest like we always have (big banks, energy/utilities, and healthcare). Apple is the biggest outlier, but are they really going to be pushing innovation this year? It seems like they've slowed down a bit recently.

Sorry, I wasn't specific. You should research to find out what/where/how these companies produce and facilitate their product. Please do your research and have some consideration for the people that these companies victimize to turn a profit. One day you might find yourself on the wrong end of a gun or worse when it comes down the accumulated repercussions. Anything can be done to turn a profit and you may not always be on the buying end. Anything. Remember that.

At the midpoint of the year, equally weighting this portfolio would have generated over a 25% return. You can see the spreadsheet at MarketWatch.com:

We'll see how the balance of the year turns out. I have taken about half of my gains off the table.

The stock is extremely illiquid, and any added demand can move it a long way. Through a happy coincidence, that brings the total picks to 14 stocks for 2014.
