Chick-fil-A does the obvious: Chicken and waffles

So far, the chain is only testing the offering in a few locations. It's ramping up its breakfast menu nationwide, however.

Atlanta-based Chick-fil-A is inarguably a Southern chicken chain. Chicken and waffles is (arguably) a popular Southern dish. Chick-fil-A serves chicken, and it's tested waffles before.

Now, at long last, the chain brings the two together in a chicken-and-waffles test that is going on in central Georgia (Macon, Dublin, and Warner Robins); Memphis, Tenn.; Philadelphia; and Inland Empire, Calif.

It's not a sandwich. The chain describes the new item as "a breakfast portion" of boneless, seasoned chicken breast served alongside a maple syrup-flavored waffle, with a side of honey.

Chick-fil-A, which recently launched a new specialty coffee program to draw in more morning customers, is testing other breakfast items, too, including an egg-white chicken grill sandwich, a Greek yogurt parfait, oatmeal, and cinnamon swirl pastries.

"It's too early to tell when and if we would roll these out nationally," said Chick-fil-A spokesman Mark Baldwin in an e-mail, but history is only mildly encouraging.

Popeyes (PLKI) has reported success with its limited-time Chicken Waffle Tenders. The combo also made its way onto menus at White Castle for a time and was spotted at Burger King (BKW). None of the chains made the items permanent.

Chick fil A can do no wrong. Not in MI and that is a real shame. OK there is a rumor of one outtlet with limited hours on the Oakland University campus.

Best chicken sandwiches hands down.

Chik-fil-a chicken waffle

Could be good...could be awful

Perhaps a taste might do us good

Before we proclaim in the neighborhood

A new day a new way this stock to take a lickin'

I'd step up I'd go all in but I'm... just a little chik-en

Least the chicken is on the side.  The article title had me thinking of a chicken flavored waffle, or a waffle with chicken cooked in the batter somehow.  Hell something equally weird has been done before, given Taco Bell's Dorito shell taco.

Was about to ask what would be next?  Something as weird as peanut butter chicken topped with chocolate sauce, and marsh mallows?  I think I'd have to take a pass on that one.

I used to go there at least once a week . Then they changed their natural chicken flavor to "Back Yard Chicken". It is dry and tastes like it is full of sodium. I asked if I could get the former offering and got the old corporate control story. So, they lost my business.

Sad and now eating burgers!

It seems that as long as the waffle is not too sweet - it might not be bad.  I just wonder if they could have that waffle taste more like a buttermilk biscuit as that one works well with chicken.

Is that a thing with Black people and Southerners? Not putting it down. Just never heard of it. I could make it at home. Fast food is slop.

While I like the idea, waffles need to be made to order to taste the best. While Chick-fil-A usually does a great job at serving hot, fresh food but some of the times I have been there the chicken was not hot. I see it as a good step if they implement it correctly.
